A handful of cosplayers from the student organization Otaku URule and arkadymac.com was invited to appear at Umagang Kay Ganda, a morning show on local network ABS-CBN. They were sent to do a segment at WOW Toy Museum along Araneta Avenue in Quezon City.
The segment featured Sir Jimmy Madarang and the many fascinating attractions that can be found at his WOW Toy Museum, which put on display his numerous and diverse collection of unique and rare toys, trinkets, collectibles and other curiosities. He claims that they have been around and have been collected since the early 1950s.
We were there by 5 am and we ended around 9 am. We spent more time goofing around in the set in between segments than being on camera on national television, but it was nevertheless a fun and exciting experience for all of us there. We were properly fed and hydrated and well-taken care of by the warm and professional staff of Umagang Kay Ganda.
Sir Jimmy, the proprietor and avid collector, states that his collection came from all corners of the world. It is with pride that he tells us that most of the toys in his exhibits cannot be found anywhere else. And we heartily agreed as we were green with envy looking at vintage Gunpla, Macross, Dragon Ball and Mazinger Z collectibles, still in their boxes and in mint condition.
After the show, we were given a personal tour by Sir Jimmy, who amazed us with his immeasurable knowledge of toys, his ingenuity in fixing and improving broken collectibles, and his dedication to his chosen hobby. We salute him on his endeavor and his will to share this joy with other people, particularly children.
All in all a fun assignment for arkadymac.com and Otaku URule, and we hope we get invited to more such shows in the future. Thank you for visiting us, and we hope you’ll drop by again soon for more great features about the hottest cosplay events in town.
