Get the chance to experience the fun, colorful and interesting aspects of Japanese culture for free as Japanese exchange students of the University of the Philippines Diliman will be having their official annual event, JAPANESE NIGHT 2016 “FURUSATO” on the 12th of February 2016, at the UP International Center. Already on its 11th year, Japanese Night  aims to promote cultural exchange of Japan and the Philippines through food and cultural activities, and everyone is invited, free admission, to this exciting event.

Furusato - final

This year the Japanese exchange students have chosen “FURUSATO”(ふるさと) as their theme, with Furusato literally meaning “hometown.” The word invokes a sense and feeling of nostalgia to the Japanese, as it brings to mind fond memories of family and friends there. Japan is not only Tokyo or Osaka.  There is a breadth of diversity in their culture, and the students wish to show you themselves the many varied facets of their hometown traditions.

Among the events and attractions lined up for the event include a booth for traditional Japanese postcard making, with Japanese stamps so guests can experience how they celebrate お正月(oshougatsu) or new year. There will also be a Japanese calligraphy booth where guests can try out for themselves the fascination of Japanese writing.
