The Japan Foundation Manila Announces Publication of Art Archive 01

Another milestone in culture and the arts in the country has been achieved as The Japan Foundation, Manila is excited to announce the publication of Art Archive 01: A Collection of Essays on Filipino Contemporary Visual & Performing Arts.  It is the first book in a series that explores current trends and concerns in Philippine contemporary arts and culture. Art Archive 01 features essays by contemporary artists, performers, art writers, curators, journalists, and experts in the field of Philippine contemporary art, dance, and theater.

Cosplay: The Art of Awakening, Keeping Olongapo’s Cosplay Community Alive


In an admirable show of unity, cosplayers in Olongapo had managed to keep their community alive and well by pooling together their time, talents and resources together to put on a show they can share and be proud of.  With local cosplay group Otaku Maru partnering with Metamorphosis, a receptive events outfit, they presented Cosplay: The Art of Awakening Cosplay Competition, an event that brought their community together as they celebrated the hobby and passion they all shared and loved.

A unique exhibit on how the Japanese have seamlessly crafted both functionality and aesthetics into their everyday products opened in earnest and was welcomed quite warmly at the Tall Galleries of the Metropolitan Museum of Manila (MET). The Japanese Design Today 100 exhibition was unveiled to dignitaries, guests and the media, featuring a collection of exactly a hundred carefully selected household and commercial products that exemplify the distinct characteristics of Japanese aesthetics as well as mirror the needs and lifestyles of the Japanese.   This traveling product exhibition is proudly presented by the Japan Foundation, Manila (JFM), the Metropolitan Museum of Manila (MET) and the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines, with support from JT International (Philippines) Inc.

Hiyaw: A Cultural Night, Japanese School Festival Style at UP Diliman

With a wealth of talent, imagination and inspiration, local artists still have a lot to offer to Filipino culture as we have witnessed at the Linggo ng Wika – Komiks ang Bida 2015 event at Fisher Mall in Quezon City last August 1, 2015.  As August is National Language Month in the Philippines, the event was even more meaningful as those who share the passion for our own brand of visual and performance arts, komiks and cosplay got to gather, collaborate and celebrate our truly unique and dynamic culture.

With her spectacular concert still fresh and alive in our minds, we happily share exclusive and official photos from last weekend’s LiSA – Another Great Day in Manila Concert from cosplay.ph.  It was an affair to remember as LiSA performed her best hits in front of an eager and enthusiastic Filipino audience.  She candidly admitted she was afraid that nobody knew about her in the Philippines, but when LiSA got to see firsthand the almost-full Samsung Hall at SM Aura, she knew she was pleasantly wrong as hundreds of fans and supporters turned up to watch her perform at her first-ever concert in Manila.
