#TheBigWave at PNU: Tsunamicon 2018

Ready for 2018?  This year’s first Japanese pop culture event was TsuNAMIcon last January 6.   It was organized by PNU NAMI with the theme “Bijutsu at Sining: Expanding the Horizon of JaPinoy Arts,” held at the  Philippine Normal University Quadrangle.

The local Japanese pop culture community starts off the year with a school event with TsuNAMIcon 2018 on January 6, 2018 at the PNU Quadrange in Manila.  Admission is free and everyone is welcome to attend.  With the theme “Bijutsu at Sining: Expanding the Horizon of JaPinoy Arts,” this event is committed to promote and share the different Japanese culture to the PNU community as well as integrate Filipino culture for better understanding and appreciation of the two different nations.  arkadymac.com is PNU NAMI’s media partner for the third straight year, so we hope to catch you there as we have a special coverage of the event.

The Japan Foundation Manila Announces Publication of Art Archive 01

Another milestone in culture and the arts in the country has been achieved as The Japan Foundation, Manila is excited to announce the publication of Art Archive 01: A Collection of Essays on Filipino Contemporary Visual & Performing Arts.  It is the first book in a series that explores current trends and concerns in Philippine contemporary arts and culture. Art Archive 01 features essays by contemporary artists, performers, art writers, curators, journalists, and experts in the field of Philippine contemporary art, dance, and theater.

Giving everyone a glimpse of the many exciting things in store for fans of pop culture this weekend, AsiaPOP Comicon Manila 2017 held its press conference at the C Lounge of Conrad Hotel at the Mall of Asia Complex.  Presented to the media were stunning American cosplayer Haiden Hazard, our very own outstanding cosplayer Jin Joson, exceptional visual artist Quiccs, American comic book writer, artist and teacher Carl Potts, revered Filipino comic book artist Whilce Portacio, and creative director and co-founder of tokidoki, Simone Legno.  All of them were thrilled to meet fans and enthusiasts from all over this weekend.

Filipinos are once again excited as August heralds the coming of one of the biggest pop culture experiences in the whole world happening right here in Manila.  After staging two successful events with impressive response from thousands of fans from all over the region, the Universal Events & Entertainment—a subsidiary of the Al Ahli Holding Group (AAHG)—recently confirmed that it is bringing a bigger and geekier AsiaPOP Comicon Manila (APCC Manila) for the third time, partnering with Marvel and Netflix to elevate Filipinos’ pop culture experience

Upcoming Event: Natsu Matsuri, A Japanese Summer Festival at Ateneo on March 31

 

Summer is almost here, and what better way for lovers of Japanese culture to welcome the season than to enjoy a fun-filled festival.  Coming this March 31 is Hinomoto’s Natsu Matsuri: A Japanese Summer Festival at Ateneo de Manila University’s Bellarmine Field.  With free entrance to to the event, everyone can get to experience a traditional Japanese summer festival through fun games, great food, and exciting live performances.

MATA Expo 2017 Press Conference at Plantation Bar in Makati

 

Mata Expo will be coming back to the Philippines after three successful events in the country, the last one being in Cebu last year.  This unique event celebrates cultural diversity through a trade show with exciting features and attractions, and once again it will open its gates at One Esplanade SM Central Business Park this coming  weekend, February 4, 2017.  A press conference was held recently at The Plantation Bar in Makati to unveil the many great things in store for all attendees.

The biggest pop culture event in Asia had landed in Manila and was unstoppable on its third straight day as AsiaPOP Comicon Manila 2016 welcomed thousands of attendees from all over the world.   Spanning the entire SMX Convention Center at the Mall of Asia Complex, the scale that APCC 2016  was on was mindblowing, and on its second straight year it had an impressive lineup of guests and unique attractions from around the world for attendees to enjoy, bringing the latest and hottest trends, activities, and attractions pop culture had to offer.
