Halloween 2015

People would be surprised that just several years ago, Filipinos didn’t pay much attention to Halloween.   Now it’s near mandatory for offices, malls and other establishments to have some form of event or attraction or party for it. Now nearly everyone knows about Trick or Treat and Jack-o-lanterns as October 31 draws near.  Well, we guess that any occasion where kids (and adults of course) can get dressed up as scary or strange costumes and get free candy can’t be so bad.

Cosplay Competition at ICT Roadshow 2015 Kickoff_0001

It was a fun weekend for cosplaying as the ICT Roadshow 2015 Kickoff held a cosplay competition at the Cyberzone of SM Annex North EDSA.  I was invited to be one of the judges so it was a doubly interesting (and challenging) time for me as I had to do coverage at the same time and as the competitors at this event were among the best around.

The New Adventures of Superman and Batman

After making an appearance at the Batman 75th Anniversary Exhibit at the Activity Center of The Block, SM North EDSA, our super fiends from cosplay group Justice Ph stepped out a bit for a quick tour of the Sky Garden.  They figured it was a slow night in Gotham anyway and that Saturday nights should really be for a fun time out in the city.

So Gerard, Tim and Gelo as Superman, Batman and Red Hood set out on a grand adventure that spanned a whole city (SM City), sharing greetings with mallgoers, taking photos, and just plain having fun with people who were also enjoying their Saturday night.

Batman 75th Anniversary Exhibit at The Block, SM North EDSA

Three-quarters of a century since his first appearance in a comic book, the legend of Batman, the Caped Crusader, the Dark Knight, is still very much alive today, captivating the imagination of generations of readers and audiences with his struggles and quest for justice.  With fans and followers spanning 75 years in countless countries, the Philippines also gets to celebrate this milestone with the Batman 75th Anniversary Exhibit at the Activity Center of The Block, SM North EDSA.

Featured in the exhibit is a Bat Computer display with a full-scale statue of Batman.  Folks can’t get enough of it, of course.

Around it were numerous display cases of toys, figures, replica vehicles, and dioramas of anything and everything about the Batman universe.

There was also an art gallery featuring the various artwork with the different versions and reincarnations of the Batman franchise throughout the years.  They offer insight into the evolution an growth of Batman as a comic book and cartoon character throughout the years, rendered in stunning renditions by accomplished artists.

The centerpiece of the exhibit was the Batmobile Experience, where folks can get to try out a sleek Batmobile replica for any 500 peso purchase of Batman merchandise.  Unfortunately, picture-taking is not allowed inside so this was as far as we could go.

We were fortunate to catch up with some members of cosplay group Justice PH who made an appearance at the exhibit.  Batman was there, with Nightwing and Red Hood, and even Batman’s buddy Superman later on that night.  They said they just had to drop by to help celebrate 75 years of Batman, in cosplay, of course.  They then found themselves busy having their photos taken and taking photos with the crowd that had gathered for the exhibit.  The cosplayers tell us that they are glad that the mallgoers are appreciative of their cosplays, as they never run out of people asking them for a shot or two or ten.

It isjust a simple exhibit, but worth the time if you’re just nearby and if you’re a big Batman fan, like me.  Here’s to more years of the Caped Crusader.

arkadymac.com at Western Digital Concept Store at SM North EDSA

The amazing folks at Western Digital invited the staff of arkadymac.com for a tour at their Concept Store at SM North EDSA’s Cyberzone lately.  As the company behind the world’s best-selling external hard drives, Western Digital has become one of the industry’s best.  We took personal interest in them as a website like ours needs reliable storage space for the tons and tons of photos and videos that we have collected throughout the years, so we’re glad that they got to show us their latest products.

Their knowledgeable and courteous staff were eager to show us around and inform us of the many features and capabilities of WD products.  And in particular are their latest offerings, the WD TV Live and My Passport AV-TV, gadgets guaranteed to let people truly enjoy their entertainment systems at home.  My Passport AV-TV is useful for recording TV shows of interest from your smart TV, saving it directly to the hard drive and guaranteed to allow constant recording and streaming.  Making it convenient is a bracket mount that allows one to attach the device right behind the TV.

And about the WD TV Live, you are now able to open, play and display files of most video formats to your HD TV without ever having to use your PC or laptop.   The WD TV Live is compatible to any WD external drive product.  It also allows for online media streaming from the WD TV Live through supported sites such as YouTube, Hulu Plus and Spotify.

We had a wonderful afternoon as got to know more about their great new devices, and we hope you’ll get to visit their concept store at SM North EDSA’s Cyberzone to make your home entertainment experience the best it can possibly be, only with WD.

Our friend from our partner blog will be doing the product review soon, so please watch out for it.

Also check out their newest offerings and products.  With WD’s upcoming 10th anniversary, My Book Duo’s warranty will be extended up to three (3) years.   Also, WD just launched the WD MY PASSPORT ULTRA METAL AND ANNIVERSARY EDITION, definitely a must-have.

TORCH 5: Tournament of Champions 5 at SM North EDSA

The road to Cosplay Mania ’14 continues with the very competitive TORCH 5: Tournament of Champions 5 at SM North EDSA organized by Cosplay.ph.  With a program filled with attractions and surprises, cosplayers and onlookers alike had an enjoyable time at this free admission event.   Bringing us the action for this event are our cosplay models Keileen and Aimee and Nicole, with the help of our friend Carina as Esmeralda, featured in our cover.

There were lots of fun things lined up that late August afternoon, starting off with the cosplay parade which saw the cosplayers going around the mall, inviting the mall goers to come see the event.  Then there were on-stage games like Facepalm the Music where contestants get to guess popular tunes, and there was the eating contest sponsored by Yoshinoya, which was particularly popular with the cosplayers.  In between were song numbers from special performers.

The event featured two cosplay contests, first of which was the Cyberzone Cosplay Grand Prix Competition sponsored by SM Malls, with nice prizes up for grabs.  Over twenty competitors battled it out on stage with impressive costumes and performances.  In the end, our friend Izaiah Luke Buelos cosplaying Galaxy Rumble of League of Legends was named Grand Prize Winner, with Louise Betita winning second place.

After the Cyberzone Cosplay Grand Prix, it was time for TORCH.  The Cosplay Tournament of Champions (TORCH) is a cosplay costume and talent competition that aims to create an energetic and competitive arena for Cosplay on a truly national level by holding cosplay contests in target venues in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.  TORCH Cos Playoffs will be held in key SM Supermalls all over the country to determine the best cosplayers of each region. Winners from the Cos Playoffs get a chance to compete in the TORCH Finals that will take place on Sunday, October 5, 2014 in Cosplay Mania ’14.  Great teams battled it out on stage, but in the end, Fate Stay Night-themed Team Eight won the leg and will be going to Cosplay Mania 14 for the grand championships.

Lots of cosplayers attended the event as the north is home to many of them although there were just as many attendees from other parts of the country who came just to take part in the contests and festivities.  And of course the cosplayers enjoyed the event by mixing it up with the crowd.  They posed happily with avid and curious, as well as had their shots taken by photographers.

This is of course just a taste of what is to come at the main event at Cosplay Mania ’14.  And of course we at arkadymac will be covering every event we can possibly go to up until October, so we hope to catch you at a TORCH event real soon.

The event also marked Kaloy’s 2nd year of cosplaying.  He is our Public Relations officer and unofficial poster boy.  Some of the team was there to wish him well on this special day.

Doll Glam with Alodia Gosiengfiao

arkadymac.com was on hand to cover Doll Glam, an event featuring this latest beauty and fashion trend.  The world’s most prominent cosplayer, Alodia Gosiengfiao, was on hand to personally promote and lead the event, along with photographer, model and blogger, Tricia Gosingtian.  It was an afternoon of fashion, glamour and excitement as the activity center of SM North EDSA The Block was filled with fans, enthusiasts and the curious.

Starting sometime past four in the afternoon, the event featured the two top guests introducing Doll Glam to the audience that had gathered and sharing how getting that doll-like look can be easier than imagined.  They held a demonstration, giving two lucky ladies a live doll glam makeover.  The results of course were extraordinary.

There were also attendees who took the chance to present their doll glam look to the public.  Ten of them were chosen to go on stage in front of an appreciative crowd and were made VIPs for the event.  They also received gift packs from the SM Beauty Section and the participating sponsor brands.

After the segments, Ms. Alodia was gracious enough to take photos and selfies with her many avid fans who came to support her event.  She said she was pleased to have been part of this unique fashion event.

We were also glad to have our Cosplay Model Julia there to partake in the other attractions Doll Glam had to offer.  Select makeup, hair and nail brands were giving out doll glam makeovers.

Top brands Dolly Wink, BYS, NYX, Pixy, Heroine Make, Kate, Maybelline Color Show, Cutex, Palty, Beautylabo and Lucido L. Plus were there to showcase their great products, and Julia was there enjoying herself as she got dolled up another level.

The great folks at Dolly Wink even had us shoot in their dainty booth.

Julia had a blast with the nail art too.

And of course, Julia was quite popular as she posed with and for people from the crowd who were there that evening.  We also had time to take photos with the other event-goers too.

Not exactly a cosplay event, but we had much fun nonetheless at Doll Glam.  We’re glad to have brought the highlights to you.
