Already a yearly tradition for us, the arkadymac.com coverage team went to Binondo, Manila to welcome the Year of the Fire Rooster amid frenetic dragon and lion dances, bright lanterns, loud firecrackers, spectacular fireworks, and, more importantly, Chinese delicacies you’d only get to enjoy on that particular day. Hiyaw: A Cultural Night, Japanese School Festival Style at UP Diliman

 

As the culminating event for their 25th anniversary celebration, UP Tomo-Kai’s Hiyaw was indeed the rich and exciting cultural night with just the feel of a Japanese summer festival right at the heart of the UP-Diliman campus.  The event brought together the best aspects of Filipino and Japanese culture by showcasing the talents of local and invited studentry, and having attendees enjoy a great time together.  arkadymac.com is glad to be an official media partner for Hiyaw, and we are pleased to bring you the highlights of this wonderful event.

As the latest of a long-running series of events of unprecedented scope, Outbreak Manila: Arca South once again gave fitness and zombie enthusiasts and everyone in between an exhilarating, scream-filled experience last weekend.  Filipinos have long been fascinated with zombies and the many stories and media around them and have long wished to have an experience in what it would be like if there was a zombie apocalypse in the Philippines. Outbreak Manila: Arca South gave them that in spades as screams were heard everywhere from the afternoon all the way into the evening.

Get ready to run for your life once again as as Outbreak Manila returns this year on December 5 at Arca South in Taguig.  Ever since it started back in 2012, Outbreak Manila has been held in different parts of the Metro, adding a whole new twist to the typical 5 km run and give people a a reason to run as if their life depended on it. This year, runners will have to dodge flesh eating, flag grabbing zombies as they conquer a crazy obstacle course.

On its second day as one of the most awaited events of the later half of the year, Otaku Expo Reload 2015 continued to draw in a huge crowd of cosplayers, enthusiasts and curious folk alike looking forward to meet and greet sessions with international guest cosplayers, contests, booths, games, bands, a cosplay competition and many other surprises for attendees.

As one of the most awaited events for the later half of the year, Otaku Expo Reload 2015 didn’t fail to draw in huge crowds last weekend, opening with an exciting Day 1 with meet and greet sessions with  international guest cosplayers, art contests, booths, games, Battle of the Bands, and other surprises for attendees.  arkadymac.com is an official media partner, and our Cosplay Models and Photographers Jillian, Keileen, Kami, Mikki, Nicolette, Yanna, Queenie and Deric were all there to help us cover the event.

All good things come to an end, but this ending is not a sad one.  Daydreams 3 reaches its last edition: the Final Spectacle, but it will go down in living memory as one of the best collaborative efforts the local cosplay community has ever seen.  arkadymac.com has been a part of this endeavor since the very first Daydreams, so we are glad to bring our readers the highlights of this amazing project and are equally glad to have seen it through the end.

Cosplay has been around in the Philippines since the early 2000s, and although the general populace still has some apprehension or resistance towards this hobby, times have been changing and we are happy that public perception toward cosplay has been improving over the years.  We were then pleasantly  surprised to have found a public high school in Las Pinas that supports cosplay as a hobby for its students.
