Maid and Butler Cafe at UP Diliman: Shiroshitsuji no Kissaten by UP Tomo-Kai

At UP Diliman, even if it were just for a day, guests became masters pampered and cared for by the ardent maids and butlers from UP Tomo-Kai at their Shiroshitsuji no Kissaten: Maid Special event.  Complete with good food, soothing music, fun games and great service from the hosts, its was definitely an enjoyable taste of Japanese pop culture right at the heart of the premier state university.

Romarinda Spooky Friday

The student government of Romarinda International School invited the arkadymac.com team to cover their first ever “Spooky Friday” and judge their Cosplay & Halloween Costume Contest. We greatly admire schools that support the interests of their students. There to help us with the event is our very first correspondent Steph.

Shiroshitsuji no Kissaten: Maid Special by UP Tomo-Kai

Our friends at UP Tomo-Kai are offering a unique experience at their Shiroshitsuji no Kissaten: Maid Special event this Friday November 4, 2016 at PH 400, University of the Philippines, Diliman.  With successful cafes this year already accomplished, their ardent team of maid and butlers are very much ready to give great treats and service to attendees.

Celebrate the season of scares with UP Tomo-Kai as we bring you Shiroshitsuji no Kissaten: Maid Special!  Shiro (城) or “castle” is the setting for this year’s cafe, so feel your heart tremble in both fear and excitement as the gates to this seemingly haunted manor creak open, and be welcomed by our butlers and maids ready to serve you in their full costumes.  A unique crossover of cultures, Shiroshitsuji no Kissaten will be held on 4 November at PH 400, University of the Philippines, Diliman to serve thrill-seeking hime-sama and ouji-sama who will be indulged by their personal butlers and maids with delightful treats and tricks.

Halloween 2015

People would be surprised that just several years ago, Filipinos didn’t pay much attention to Halloween.   Now it’s near mandatory for offices, malls and other establishments to have some form of event or attraction or party for it. Now nearly everyone knows about Trick or Treat and Jack-o-lanterns as October 31 draws near.  Well, we guess that any occasion where kids (and adults of course) can get dressed up as scary or strange costumes and get free candy can’t be so bad.

Monster High Cosplay Photo Shoot

We spent one one cloudy but otherwise pleasant afternoon at a nearby park for a particularly interesting shoot with a couple of our friends cosplaying as characters from Monster High.

Monster High is a popular American fashion doll franchise whose characters are inspired by creatures from monster and horror movies.  Their merchandise are everywhere as children and teens just love them.  And with Halloween coming up, we don’t think any other cosplay can be as fitting.

We had the pleasure of taking photographs of our friends for this themed shoot from Monster High Scaris: City of Frights.  We have Dukesa cosplaying as Rochelle Goyle, Winterdoll as Jinafire Long, and Nekomi Kasai as Clawdeen Wolf.

We also chanced upon a costume shoot for a clothing line featuring some adorable little princesses, who were giddy having their photos taken with our cosplayer friends.

All in all a fun and enjoyable shoot with everyone in the mood for a good time.  We’ll take the opportunity to wish everyone a spooky but fun Halloween coming up really soon.

7th COF Halloween Cosplay Competition

It was definitely a fun and spooky night at the 7th COF Halloween Costume Party and Cosplay Competition in Quezon City last October 31, 2013.  Sir Jay, head of Circle of Friends, graciously invited Xtian Mack, creative director of arkadymac.com, to be Chairman of the Board of Judges for its cosplay competition, so we were all excited and honored to be at the event.

The Circle of Friends is a non-profit organization aimed at promoting brotherhood among its members, and one of its many worthwhile goals is to promote cosplaying in the country. For the last 7 years, COF organizes and holds this event around every Halloween to celebrate and have fun with cosplay as well as games and surprises for all the attendees.

This year’s event saw Christian Umali as War Machine named Champion, receiving a cash prize as well as a trip to Boracay.  It was a fun night of food and games and laughter as everything was aimed to have everyone enjoy themselves among friends.

We’d like to thank Sir Jay of COF for having us over to judge and take part in the event and we commend COF for organizing this successful event.  Till next Halloween.

Halloween 2013

Just went around to take some shots of Halloween at a nearby mall.  Later on I had our friends Kaloy and Eiri tag along for the ride.

Invitational Otaku Urule Photoshoot 10 (IOP10)

The cosplay community was in for a ghoulish treat at IOP 10, or Invitational Otaku Urule Photoshoot 10, the latest in a long-running series of photoshoots for cosplayers and photographers alike.  This edition had the delightfully different theme of Zombie Apocalypse, something that most cosplayers couldn’t pass up on. Although the staff wasn’t able to come personally, we are grateful for the generous assistance of our friends who lent us their great photos as they covered the event. Photos here courtesy of Arjay Abad of RA Snaps and Dale Perias of Totodale Photography.

Organized by Otaku Urule, a student-based organization which promotes Japanese pop culture in the country, more than a hundred cosplayers, photographers and enthusiasts alike trooped to PUP Sta. Mesa Campus  with earnest expectations of having a fun and memorable day with each other, with the only rule being: to have fun, meet friends, respect one another, and enjoy.

Originally scheduled October 30, Sunday, IOP 10 was rescheduled to October 29, Saturday because the campus was to be used by the COMELEC for the Barangay elections.  Although there were those who could not come anymore because of the change in date, the turnout was still quite good and everyone’s help and cooperation made this IOP another successful one.  This wouldn’t have been possible if not for the able, courteous and experienced staff of Otaku Urule, who made sure the event ran as smoothly as possible for all the participants.  Looking forward to the next IOP.
