arkadymac.com got to cover 4th PUP Otaku Xperience : OXP Cybergaming Showdown 2014 as an official media partner. Held at the activity center at the 3rd Floor, SM Cyberzone, SM City Sta. Mesa, the event was well-attended by cosplayers, enthusiasts, photographers and curious folk who came to enjoy an afternoon of gaming, contests, music and cosplay.
We’re lucky to have our coverage partner and features writer Jillian Rose help bring you the events that day. I expected this to be a fun event so I decided to go in my usual ANBU cosplay as was Jillian in her Lelouch cos as we went around taking pictures of the wonderful cosplayers who were there and reporting on the many attractions of OXP 4 along with our co-media partner Anime PH Project doing live coverage of the event.
Organized by the Polytechnic University of the Philippines Otaku U Rule!, Urule: Japanology Club , Primetrade Asia and SM City Sta. Mesa Cyberzone, OXP 4 was a unique event that coincided with the 4th year anniversary of PUP Otaku U Rule! There was so much happening in and around the event venue, including Jpop performances, cybergaming show, exhibition and activity booths, games, acoustic Jrock band performances, charity auction, the LARP Launch and various manga booths. Attendees had much to do and experience and even got to take home freebies and giveaways.
RG Gamurot, founder of Otaku U Rule!, talked about the beginnings of the organization and of the first OXP, which was more of a private affair with the members and their families as a chance to showcase their talents in cosplay, games, music and arts. After four years, despite many challenges and setbacks, Otaku U Rule! has become an active and admirable organization, and the 4th OXP a big success from the number of people gathered there that afternoon. Otaku U Rule! is a network of campus based student organizations aimed to promote youth development through Japanese pop culture. Currently, Otaku U Rule! is the official organization partner of Animax Philippines for all events. In 2011, the organization was recognized as one of the most outstanding student organization in the Polytechnic University of the Philippines. Today, the organization is composed of members from the different schools.
The highlight of the event was the Individual Cosplay Competition which was also the Best of Anime Interschool Cosplay Competition for PUP Branches. A total of 46 cosplayers battled it out and showed their costumes and talents for coveted top spots in different categories. The crowd was in awe seeing the amazing performances put on by the contestants, showcasing to everyone how fascinating and amazing cosplay can be.
Xtian Mack of The Cosplay and Anime Cafe, arkadymac.com was chosen to be one of the panel of judges who had the tough job of choosing the winners for each category. In the end, the winners were Jeasan Declaro for Best Male, Andrea Francisco for Best Female, Ashley Misaki for Best Chibi, RB Cheng for Best Mecha, and Pete Mendoza for the special category of Best Spiderman.
The program ended in the evening with the awarding of prizes to the winners and words of thanks from the organizers to the sponsors and groups and individuals who have made the event possible. From the healthy and enthusiastic turnout, it was clear that OXP 4 was quite a success. Congratulations to everyone at Otaku U Rule! for organizing a fun and exciting event as we look forward to more future events from them.

arkadymac.com was at the SMX Convention Center at the SM Mall of Asia last weekend to cover the 1st MyPhone Youth Tech Congress last weekend. It was a unique event which had symposia, talks, a car show, product displays, games and a whole lot more. MyPhone is a local mobile phone brand which has taken huge strides in the past couple of years with an extensive line of great electronic products that has received a lot of support from Filipinos.
Joining us for this event is the newest member of our arkadymac.com family, Jillian. She’s a writer, cosplayer and photographer who has been helping us out this year and we know she’ll make a great addition to our lineup.
MyPhone showed its gratitude to the people who have supported them through this event, as they were generous in having this a free event, with lots of freebies upon registration and gave away many new great phones as giveaways and prizes.
The cosplay contest was one of the highlights of the event, with 27 contestants performing on stage with their awesome costumes and remarkable talent to the delight of the participants. Winners got to take home the latest MyPhone models as their reward, cosplayers which included chibi cosplayers Ashley Misaki and Bolen Lareza.
Well, we had fun at this event and it was quite well organized. We capped the day off watching the Pyrolympics display at the Bayside that featured France and Japan. It was quite a sight.

A busy weekend for the cosplay community starts off with the very competitive TORCH 4: Tournament of Champions 4 at SM Bacoor organized by cosplay.ph. It featured two cosplay competitions: the Cyberzone Cosplay Competition sponsored by SM Malls and the TORCH 4 qualifiers.
The event attracted many cosplayers from the southern Metro Manila area, although some of the participants have come from as far as Baguio just to take part in the contest. Cosplayers had a grand display of their skills and talents in front of a large, appreciative crowd. Pablo Bairan led the hosting team and the competition had spectacular judges who had the difficult task of choosing the best cosplayers for the event.
In the end, the amazing Bolen Lareza claimed first place for the Cyberzone Cosplay Competition while our friend Carmae Fonte claimed second. We’d also like to congratulate our friends Carina Crisostomo and Ken Lim claimed first runner up at the TORCH qualifiers.
Hats off to the winners at this very grueling but very enjoyable tournament and our thanks to the organizers for a truly spectacular event.

Nyanbu was happy to be able to join a handful of cosplayers in helping out at the National Children’s Hospital in Quezon City. Naruto Cosplayers of the Philippines headed by Sir Dave has had this program of making these visits for a long time already, so Nyanbu was more than grateful to tag along and document this event. The idea was to bring cosplayers into the hospital in the hopes of making the children smile and be with characters as if they came straight out from TV, movies and comics.
After dressing up and preparing, the cosplayers made their way to the children’s ward where a short program was started by Sir Dave as Master Pogi featuring the cosplayers that had assembled there. The children and their parents who got to watch the show had an enjoyable time, thanks in part to Sir Dave’s creative storytelling and hilarious wit and sense of humor.
After the program, the cosplayers went to visit the patients in their rooms and beds and talked and played with them for a while. Stories were exchanged, patients and cosplayers curious to learn more about each other. Photos were taken with each other to remember each other by.
Toys that were brought along by the cosplayers were handed out to the children, as well as some snacks and treats that were shared as everyone continued to enjoy each other’s company.
We were moved by the silent resilience and courage that the children there had in the face of their pain and suffering, so it was humbling to know that, in our little way, cosplayers can help out in their own special way by making these children smile, even if just for a short while.
We would like to thatk Sir Dave and NCPH for this wonderful opportunity, as well as to the staff of the National Children’s Hospital for allowing us to be of help. We would like to thank the children and their parents for allowing us to share some time with them.
For everyone that had been involved, this will be a pleasant memory that will stay with them for a long time.
