$250,000 at Stake as ESL and Mineski Bring Manila Masters this May

 

Manila will once again be the center for esports in Southeast Asia as ESL and Mineski-Events Team with PLDT and SMART bring Manila Masters this May at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.  With a hefty $250,000 prize pool, eight of the best teams from all over the world  will be battling it out for supremacy over three days of grueling DotA 2 action.  As the spiritual successor of last year’s successful ESL One Manila, Manila Masters is shaping up to be another defining moment for esports in the country as well as for the region.

Mata Expo will be coming back to the Philippines after three successful events in the country, the last one being in Cebu last year.  This unique event celebrates cultural diversity through a trade show with exciting features and attractions, and once again it will open its gates at One Esplanade SM Central Business Park this coming  weekend, February 4, 2017.  A press conference was held recently at The Plantation Bar in Makati to unveil the many great things in store for all attendees.

ESL One Manila by PLDT Fibr & Smart GameX crowned its champions on Sunday April 23, 2016 and sealed its position as a pioneer within the esports industry across the entirety of the weekend. Attracting over 16,000 fans across the weekend, with many hundreds of thousand more online, Asia’s first ESL One event is the first Dota 2 event of this magnitude in the region. Anticipation of the event’s importance, both locally and internationally, led ESL One Manila by PLDT Fibr & Smart GameX to be the first government-supported event in Southeast Asia, with approval from the local tourism board.

The local cosplay community got to show the world their passion and hard work on a grand stage at ESL One Manila 2016, Southeast Asia’s biggest ever eSports event. Local cosplayers, themselves Dota 2 players and enthusiasts, were thrilled that ESL One got to include cosplay in the festivities of this two-day affair.

In terms of scale and spectacle, ESL One Manila was easily the biggest eSports event to date in the SEA region, let alone in the Philippines.  The Filipinos have had a long and active history in gaming and have had many events held in the country, but the sheer size and excitement that ESL One brought to the Philippines this April was just simply mind-blowing and off the scale.  The MOA Arena was a fitting venue for the much anticipated two-day event, with more than 6,000 enthusiasts gathering from all over for this rare opportunity with ESL One’s first venture into the SEA region.

It was a second straight stellar day for the local gaming community as ESGS, the biggest e-sports competition and gaming convention of the year got to showcase all that is fun and exciting about games, putting on a great event for Filipino enthusiasts to enjoy. After a successful inaugural event last year with over 6,000 attendees, this year’s E-Sports and Gaming Summit is even bigger, occupying Function Rooms 1 to 4 of the SMX Convention Center, SM Mall of Asia, and inside could be found an amazing lineup of exhibitors and attractions from all over the world, like industry giants Sony Playstation and Ubisoft. ESGS was organized by Gariath Concepts and co-presented by PLDT Home and GameX.

Strengthening the bonds between Japanese and Filipinos through music, dance, and culture, the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines  presented the 2015 J-Pop Anime Sing and Dance Contest at SM Cinema Centerstage at the SM Mall of Asia last July 25, 2015.  Already on its seventh year, this annual competition has showcased the best Japanese pop culture-inspired performances by talented Filipinos as part of Philippines-Japan Friendship Month.
