Cosplay: The Art of Awakening, Keeping Olongapo’s Cosplay Community Alive

 

In an admirable show of unity, cosplayers in Olongapo had managed to keep their community alive and well by pooling together their time, talents and resources together to put on a show they can share and be proud of.  With local cosplay group Otaku Maru partnering with Metamorphosis, a receptive events outfit, they presented Cosplay: The Art of Awakening Cosplay Competition, an event that brought their community together as they celebrated the hobby and passion they all shared and loved.

Upcoming Event: Pinoy Otaku Festival (POF) 2017 – Danketsu

 

Already on its fourth successful year of bringing our local flavor of love for Japanese pop culture,  Pinoy Otaku Festival will be bring a lot of fun and surprises at Fairview Terraces in Quezon City over two straight days, May 20-21, 2017.  With the theme “DANKETSU,” the Japanese term for “unity,” its organizers will be bringing together together everyone who loves Otaku culture in the Philippines which includes cosplay, manga, music, games and more. Through the many planned activities, features and competitions, Pinoy Otaku Fest 2017 invites  individuals and organizations to collaborate with them and show a message of unity towards achieving positive endeavors.

Upcoming Event: O-kun Fiesta 3

 

After two successful runs over two years with thousands of Japanese pop culture enthusiasts from all over, Otaku Asia Anime Magazine brings O-kun Fiesta 3, with the Japanese Hina Festival (Doll Festival) as its theme.  This year brings exciting activities and a formidable lineup of guests for all the people who have supported Otaku Asia Magazine throughout the years, and it will happen on May 14, Sunday at SM Megatrade Hall 3, 5th Level, Mega B, SM Megamall.  arkadymac.com has been O-kun Fiesta’s official media partner since the very beginning, so we hope to see you there as we do our coverage of this fascinating event.

Upcoming Event: Otaku Connection Special 3-Tomodachi No Wa (Circle of Friends)

 

Start off this summer with a cool event this coming weekend as Otaku Connection presents TOMODACHI NO WA (Circle of Friends), a Japanese School Fandom Event, Day 1-March 31 2017 (Friday) and Day 2-April 1 2017 (Saturday), from 11AM onwards at the
Event Center, 2nd Floor of Starmall Edsa-Shaw, Mandaluyong City.  For only 80 pesos as an admission fee, get to enjoy a lot of fun activities throughout the day with friends and fellow Japanese pop culture enthusiasts.

In The Zone 2: Bringing to Life, by AniZone

Annually there would be a group of cosplayers who’ll hold a photoshoot to start the year, where in it can be in groups or individually. They cater to all cosplayers whether they cosplay from a game, an anime, visual kei, or jrock artists who they love or photographers who would love to take wonderful shots of the cosplayers. Early this year, AniZone has started their annual photoshoot, In The Zone 2: Bringing to Life.

Otaku Asia Magazine Features Extreme Moments 5 Cosplay Shoot

 

Otaku Asia Magazine  has been one of the leading printed publications for the Filipinos who are fans of anime and the Japanese culture, and they have been very supportive of the local cosplay community, even more so with their feature Extreme Moments 5 out-of-town cosplay photoshoot held in the historic island of Corregidor late last year.  Their Issue#37 will be the first of the year, and it will be showcasing the great work of some of the most talented cosplayers and photographers in the country.

With cosplay and anime events being churned out endlessly but with the same old content, it is encouraging to know that there are still those from the community who are willing to step up and offer something more relevant and closer to the heart of those who have long nurtured the passion for cosplay.  Far from the usual mall venues where events have become all so common, Loving Rainbow Garden Cosplay Festival took a bold move in having a new but refreshing  venue to accommodate those who had so much passion for cosplay and anime.  The result was a fun new event that left everyone happy, fulfilled and pleasantly surprised.

A fun new event with cosplayers and enthusiasts at the very heart and organized by fellow cosplayers and individuals who have loved and have been in the community for many years, Cosplay Festival promises to be the freshest breakthrough event of 2016 at an entirely new venue where there will be an exciting program with special guests,  contests, indoor and outdoor photoshoots, karaoke contests, booths, a cafe, and many other surprises.  For only 100 pesos, one can enjoy cosplay, anime, Jpop and Jrock to their hearts content at Loving Rainbow Garden Cosplay Festival, coming this September 24 – 25 at Loving Rainbow Garden in Tandang Sora, Quezon City.

Otaku Expo Reload 2016 has always been a favorite among cosplayers and congoers as the year starts winding down, and headlining the event were a pair of prominent international cosplayers who have flown to Manila to join in the festivities and meet their ardent Filipino fans and fellow cosplayers.  Tsubasa from Hong Kong and Misaki from Thailand had a number of meet and greet sessions over the two-day affair, something they and their fans got to enjoy.

The second straight day of end-of-summer otaku fun was even more intense as thousands of Japanese pop culture enthusiasts from all over the country gathered at the SMX Convention Center for O-kun Fiesta 2 (for our coverage of O-kun Day 1, click here.).  Organized by Otaku Asia Anime Magazine, O-kun Fiesta 2, now a two-day event, had a Japanese lantern festival as its theme and this year they promised to have even more special guests, tutorials, panel discussions, magazine signings and contests in order to emulate the magazine’s contents into a two-day fun-filled event at Function Room 1 of the SMX Convention Center.
