Anime and Cosplay eXpo: Day 3



Ever felt like you’re just a spectator at the same old events? With fun and innovative new games, contests and attractions lined up that anyone can take a part in, get to experience more and be an actual part of the event as there as so many opportunities for every congoer to have fun and have a great time by themselves or with friends at the newest event this season: Anime and Cosplay Expo 2016.  On its third and final day, ACX stayed strong as thousands came to join in the festivities and continued to have more activities and surprises for everyone. ESL One Manila by PLDT Fibr & Smart GameX: A Pioneering eSports Event

ESL One Manila by PLDT Fibr & Smart GameX crowned its champions on Sunday April 23, 2016 and sealed its position as a pioneer within the esports industry across the entirety of the weekend. Attracting over 16,000 fans across the weekend, with many hundreds of thousand more online, Asia’s first ESL One event is the first Dota 2 event of this magnitude in the region. Anticipation of the event’s importance, both locally and internationally, led ESL One Manila by PLDT Fibr & Smart GameX to be the first government-supported event in Southeast Asia, with approval from the local tourism board.

The local cosplay community got to show the world their passion and hard work on a grand stage at ESL One Manila 2016, Southeast Asia’s biggest ever eSports event. Local cosplayers, themselves Dota 2 players and enthusiasts, were thrilled that ESL One got to include cosplay in the festivities of this two-day affair.

In terms of scale and spectacle, ESL One Manila was easily the biggest eSports event to date in the SEA region, let alone in the Philippines.  The Filipinos have had a long and active history in gaming and have had many events held in the country, but the sheer size and excitement that ESL One brought to the Philippines this April was just simply mind-blowing and off the scale.  The MOA Arena was a fitting venue for the much anticipated two-day event, with more than 6,000 enthusiasts gathering from all over for this rare opportunity with ESL One’s first venture into the SEA region.

We at arkadymac.com love school events that celebrate the studentry’s love and admiration for cosplay and Japanese culture, which was why we were pleasantly glad to take part in Tanabata VII at Philippine Normal University in Manila.  Organized by PNU NAMI, a university org that bridges both Filipino and Japanese culture together, Tanabata featured a festival of creativity and talent, highlighted by wonderful performances as well as the PNU leg of the Best of Anime Interschool Cosplay Competition.  arkadymac.com is their exclusive media partner, and we are happy to bring you our coverage of their event.

JPOP Anime Sing and Dance Contest 2015 by the Embassy of Japan




Strengthening the bonds between Japanese and Filipinos through music, dance, and culture, the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines  presented the 2015 J-Pop Anime Sing and Dance Contest at SM Cinema Centerstage at the SM Mall of Asia last July 25, 2015.  Already on its seventh year, this annual competition has showcased the best Japanese pop culture-inspired performances by talented Filipinos as part of Philippines-Japan Friendship Month.

Cosplay action invades southern Manila as Cosplay Mania Roadshow 2015 makes a stop at SM Southmall in Las Pinas.  Organized by cosplay.ph, Cosplay Mania Roadshow along with TORCH Cosplay Tournament of Champions constitute a series of events that build up the excitement for Cosplay Mania ’15 on October 3-4 at the SMX Convention Center. Cosplay has been around in the Philippines since the early 2000s, and although the general populace still has some apprehension or resistance towards this hobby, times have been changing and we are happy that public perception toward cosplay has been improving over the years.  We were then pleasantly  surprised to have found a public high school in Las Pinas that supports cosplay as a hobby for its students.

It was an exciting and competitive weekend for Philippine cosplay as Hero Faceoff 2015 showcased some of the best cosplayers from all over the country across different categories at the Music Hall of SM Mall of Asia. The stakes were high as not only the biggest cash prizes were up for grabs: the coveted invitation for the World Cosplay Summit to represent the country in Nagoya, Japan was waiting for the best team to perform in front of a huge crowd gathered that day.  The arkadymac.com team was of course there to bring you all the action and highlights for the event.
