For those who are endlessly fascinated with the many facets of Japanese culture, The Japan Foundation, Manila presents an annual showcase of Japanese language, arts, and tradition at Nihongo Fiesta 2016 on Feb. 27, 2016 at Shangri-la Plaza Mall. For the past 11 years, Nihongo Fiesta has been a successful and highly-anticipated event for Japanese learners and Japan-culture enthusiasts in the Philippines. Among the events lined up is the 43rd Japanese Speech Contest which provides the contestants from as far as Cebu and Davao an avenue to express their Nihongo fluency through their own original composition on a theme of their choice. Both the Champion and the Outstanding Performance Awardee will be granted an all-expense paid, week-long study tour in Japan. There is also the 8th Nihongo Quiz Bee for High School Students, where 42 students from different high schools in the country outdo each other in the field of Japanese language and culture.
As a special treat, a free exclusive screening of the anime Sarusuberi: Miss Hokusai will be shown. This is the untold story Master Hokusai’s daughter: a lively portrayal of a free-spirited, utterly outspoken, and highly talented woman, unfolding through the changing seasons.
A J-Pop concert will round off the festivities, and it will include performances from Kawaii 5, Diana Garnet, Joe Inoue, and THE BEATMOTORS who will fill the Shangri-La Grand Artrium with their hits and lively tunes.
