The vast grounds of Rizal Park’s Quirino Grandstand was ground zero for one of the biggest celebrations of Japanese Culture in the country. MATSURI was a huge cultural crossover between our two countries as it brought a vast array of attractions that included incredible live performances, food, gaming, cosplay, music, and special guests, all for a memorable cultural experience

Organized by OtaCute Event DAO who have brought innovative community events like OtaCute Cosplay Festival and JAPANIGHT, Matruri made an explosive debut last May 10 and 11 at Rizal Park’s Quirino Grandstand as the biggest Japanese Festival in Metro Manila. The vast area of venue was filled with fun and exciting attractions, booth and exhibitors that made for a festive atmosphere all weekend long, with attendees enjoying the sights and sounds and tastes the event had to offer.

A variety of activities like the Kimono Fashion Show, the Karaoke Contest, the Car Drift Show, Katori Shinto Ryu Philippines Inc.—Sugawara Budo Yushinkan Dojo demonstration, and side gaming features was well-received by attendees from start till finish.

Cosplay was a big part of MATSURI, and this was evident witha big cosplay contests with a trip to Japan as the biggest prize, as well as having the most prominent cosplayers as special guests at the event. Ruunachu, Zzackt. & Roxanne, Charess, Maria Ozawa, Myrtle Sarrosa, Een, and Kitz delighted the crowd with appreances and meet and greets over the entire weekend.

Probably the biggest highlights of the event were the live performances from both Japanese and Filipino artists. renowned vocalist Maki Otsuki, Filipino artist James Reid, bands like Lily and Skygarden, acts from Fumi, Fairy Tales with Penta, Tokyo Otome Daiko, Gonzo, Enishi, with amazing DJ performances from DJ Sigrid, DJ Bandit, Nicdroid, and Sukima Altera.

With all these and more, MATSURI was a big hit with people from the community and the general public as all attendees got to appreciate and enjoy the rich and colorful synergy between Japanese and Filipino cultures all in one event.
