A very happy Mother’s Day to all mothers everywhere from all of us at arkadymac.com, especially to moms out there who continue their passion for cosplay and support their children’s enjoyment of the hobby. That’s why we are featuring a special mom who has been enjoying cosplay with her daughter.  You may have seen them at events, enjoying cosplay, having photos with everyone, and joining competitions as an exceptionally entertaining  mother-daughter team.  We’re glad that they have Cherry with Alynn for this special feature.

Cherry is from Indonesia and has fond memories of her home country, especially the food.  As a kid, she discovered cosplay from a Japanese festival held every year in her hometown called Bonenkai Fest.  She nostalgically recalls attending every year to take pictures with the cosplayers there.  She admired the cosplayers and thought they were so cool.  She wanted to cosplay herself but she didn’t know how to yet, how to make costumes or here to find accessories.

Many years later she has come to the Philippines to have her own family.  She has had a great time with warm and hospitable people and enjoy the food like sisig and laing.  Everything changed when Alynn came into her life.  To Cherry, Alynn is her angel , her best friend , her love , her everything.  Cherry says she doesn’t have enough words to describe her because no amount of words can describe how wonderful Alynn is.

It was equally wonderful for her to discover that Alynn also loves cosplay very much.  When she asks her daughter what about it that she enjoys so much, Alynn would tell her that she likes getting to wear many dresses and costumes and that they get to take pictures with so many people.

Taking their love of cosplay to the next level, they enjoy joining cosplay competitions together.  Cherry says that she would check out upcoming contests and review the rules then check what kind of costumes would fit the theme.  She would marathon whole series just to do research. She would then make the costume and props herself.  She would then look for ideas for performances and then practice the skit or dance with Alynn.  She says all these take a month or so, so one could not help notice that their performances are wonderfully executed and fun to watch.

They have won many awards already at various cosplay and anime events.  Even more amazing is the fact that they a routine or performance only once for one contest.  They work hard to have a fresh new performance and new costumes for the next event they take part in.  Their charm and hard work pay off as judges and audiences alike love their performances and cheer for them each and every time.

Cherry says they compete not really to win, but that they perform to have a better connection with each other and to show other people how much fun cosplay can be.  She says their favorite cosplays are of Sakura and Sarada from Boruto,  and Tohru and Kanna Kamui from Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid.  Cherry says time spent for cosplay is her bonding time with Alynn, because from watching the anime to performing on stage , they do everything together.   Even when making the costume and props, Alynn is there happily helping her.

As a mother herself, Cherry hopes that other moms can be supportive of cosplay.  She hopes that parents should be supportive of their children who discover and enjoy cosplay.  She says that if cosplay starts to become a problem with their studies, talking to them and helping them manage their time between cosplay and studying would be ideal.  She says that studies are important, but there’s no reason you have to stop Cause even study is important doesn’t mean you have to stop your hobby and do what you love and dream.  Cherry says there are so many positive things that come out from cosplay than people realize.

And to moms that still have cosplay close to their hearts, Cherry has this to say:  “Dont stop do what you love just because you’re already married or have kids already.  I know it’s hard to manage money for cosplay and daily life, but trust me, I’m not from a rich family andI really know how it feels.  But with proper management, you can still continue your hobby. And dont be shy about it.  Even if your size has changed or if you feel like you’re not as young anymore from having a family , you still can be your favorite character.  Just live what you love and never give up.  Besides, cosplaying with your kids is so much fun.

Many thanks to Cherry and Alynn for the opportunity to get to know a little more about them.  Thank you as well for reading our feature, and we hope you will support Cherry and Alynn.
