Hello, and thank you for dropping by. You’re just in time to have a peek at my first venture into the crazy world of cosplay. Not so long ago I made a pact with myself that I would start writing creatively again, somehow I’ve chosen anime and cosplaying as my topics of interest. So as to get a better perspective of these topics, I thought it best to learn about it from the inside (inside a costume).
And so as to document this momentous occasion, I have asked my brother Buraimaku for a photoshoot as I give my costume a test run, and what better background for a ninja wannabe than the deepest, darkest jungles of Bulacan. He even has Hunter the Dog cosplaying as Akamaru.
And thus Nyanbu is born. Nyanbu is a minor character from the manga and anime Naruto. Nyanbu is supposed to be a ninja belonging to the fictional ninja organization called ANBU. ANBU refers to this group and also refers to the individual ninjas. Nyanbu is a bit different because he’s more cat than ninja. The costume is a very complex and intricate ensemble consisting of a mask and a black cloak. Well, sure it ain’t much, but that’s actually what most of the ANBU in Naruto wear. So there. No turning back.
Later that day, I wore Obito-kun’s Akatsuki cloak. Just trying it out. I’d call it ANBU-tsuki, but after much thought I’d rather stick to my black cloak.
Now for acknowledgements, my thanks to Buraimaku for the stellar photos of not-so-stellar Nyanbu. Gratitude to Alice the Great Dressmaker for my amazing Cloak of Displacement. Many thanks to Hunter, our pet, for being a living prop. Many thanks also to Arthur the Great Machinist for taking care of Hunter, and for his support as well. Much love to Bless for her support and sweets that day.
Now that the stage is set, Nyanbu will make his formal debut at Cosplay Mania ’12, the biggest cosplay event of the year in the Philippines. Thank you for everyone’s support and please wish me luck.
