It was a blast covering IOP 5, or the Invitational Otaku Urule Photoshoot 5, the latest installment in a series of photoshoots for cosplayers and photographers alike. Organized by Otaku Urule, a student-based organization which promotes Japanese pop culture in the country, literally hundreds of cosplayers and photographers converged at the PUP Main Campus in Sta. Mesa, Manila, all eager to participate in this unique event where the theme was “school.” As many anime have been about the ups and downs and bittersweet memories of school life, cosplayers took the opportunity to wear their blouses, pleated skirts, neckties, and even gangster attire in homage to the characters they have come to love and admire.
Gracing the event with her amazing presence was seasoned model Cyen Lazam who also came in her own eye-catching cosplay, much to the delight of the participants.
Once again it was an opportunity for this unique community to affirm friendships and discover new ones in an atmosphere that encourages lively interaction between all participants. The event officially started around noon, with the registration as well as announcements and reminders from the Otaku Urule staff.
Despite the hot, humid weather, everyone persevered and managed to have a great time having pictorials all over the campus with all its interesting places and sights to see. The event ended at sundown with final group pictures and words of gratitude from the organizers for the support and enthusiastic participation of all who came that day, and announced that there will be awards for best cosplay, best photographer, Cosplayer of the Month and other categories.
Our heartfelt thanks to Otaku Urule for yet another successful affair and we look forward to the next IOP set at the Chinese Gardens in Rizal Park next month. Do visit their Facebook pages for more information.
