We met Maki at an event last summer. She made such an impact that time, impressing the judges and the crowd so much to win the Best Female Category that day. She was quite new to cosplaying, so she was quite surprised as everyone when she won. She didn’t even bother waiting for the results and was already on her way home when the organizers contacted her that she won. We were also impressed of course that we just had to invite her for her very own feature here at arkadymac.com, and here we are.
For this feature, Maki cosplays Rylai, the Crystal Maiden, a playable character from the wildly popular DOTA game. She says she enjoys cosplaying RPG characters because she simply loves playing online games like DOTA, LOL, Dragon Nest, Cabal and RAN Online. She says she particularly enjoys cosplaying characters that her boyfriend uses in online games.
Maki never really imagined herself being a cosplayer until she first tried it out of curiosity. She then eventually discovered it it to be a passion she found hard to ignore. Through cosplay, she has found many new friends who share the same fascination for it. She realized that cosplaying has helped improve her confidence and self-esteem, and that she finds it a lot easier to establish connections with more people.
Although preparing and crafting elaborate cosplays can be quite a challenge for anyone, Maki says that she doesn’t really treat it as something troublesome because it is her passion. She says she has her heart into it, which is why she doesn’t mind all the effort, time and hard work that comes with crafting a worth cosplay that she and others can appreciate.
Maki says that she’ll eagerly continue cosplaying as long as her heart says she still loves what she’s doing. Already she has new cosplay plans in the horizon, like a female version of Taric from League of Legends, and Gemini, an armored-type character from Battle of Immortals.
Being a cosplayer can be tough at times, which is why she is grateful to all the people who have supported her in her journey to the world of cosplay. She particularly would like to thank her mother, Josephine, for her unceasing support and understanding.
