There are a bazillion ways people celebrate Valentines Day, but for cosplayers and otakus who have grown weary of the the usual roses and chocolates routine every February 14, not a lot of options are offered. After all, how much time do we waste shipping, fantasizing, fangirling, fanboying, spazzing, gushing over fictional couples? Would it be as much fun, or even more so, if we bring them to life through cosplay, preferably with your hubby, your bae, your (close?) friend, your slave, your childhood (you-think-you-made-a-promise-to-love-forever) friend, or with any other infinite number of permutations that works for you.
Well, I at least wanted a cosplay event for Valentines, but as far as I know, there aren’t any on Feb 14 itself. The closest thing would be the Talking Apples Pop-up Cafe at 121 Allegro Center in Makati on Feb 28. Their theme for this month would be Bloody Valentine, so expect all those Yuno Gasais and Akame Ga Kills and School Days and Higurashis to be there and be very welcome. The cafe will serve Japanese comfort food and legendary vegan pastries for a feast worth looking forward to. So take that special someone for a ride and be there, in cosplay or not, and just have a fun time with the awesome maids and butlers of Talking Apples, voted as the Best Community Event by the Golden Ticket Awards for 2014.
For an event on Valentines itself, how I wish there was one, and it’ already too late to organize one, I guess. Hopefully next year people will help me organize one for the community, something fun, worthwhile, and, hopefully, romantic.
