Together with Ballet Philippines, Cosplay.ph wished to bridge the cultures of cosplay and theater with the event “Cosplay Saves The Day”. The two spheres have some intersections such as: preparation/performing in costumes, internalization of the character and following/ad-libbing script/skits.
With unusually heavy traffic and not wanting to be late, we walked two parts of the trip to CCP, arriving a sweaty hot mess. arkadymac.com rushed there but the cosplayers may have gotten shy/late so organizers opted to skip the contest.
With mostly student-aged crowd for MANHID’s 2nd show, the energy of the audience was slightly different. They connected with Allunsina’s brash and awkward nature. They also fell in love with the “man who doesn’t know how to love”(Radia). Being young, they were not shy in expressing their feelings towards the cast/characters.
It took the audience almost the entire Act I to realize that they can clap and applaud if they liked the sequence/song. This is in contrast to opening night where majority were getting the “feels” and “memories” thus clapping and occasionally crying from the first song onward.
After the show, some cast members posed on the staircase for the adoring crowd.
The plan to have cosplayers pose with them was abandoned, but the cast wanted it to happen, so it did.
Allunsina (Kim Molina) and Lagrimas (Ronah Rostata) seemed impressed by the quality of Spiderman’s costume.
Allunsina obliged some selfies.
Radia (Fred Lo) was on his way, but went back with delighted shrieks from the crowd to join some selfies as well.
Lam-ang (Teetin Villanueva) went down to greet her family, friends and fans.
People also wanted photos with the cosplayers.
With the crowd thinning down, we got to talk to the other cosplayers and take photos of them.
No rest for the brilliant people behind MANHID as they prepare for the 6pm show. Here’s the creator Kanakan Balintagos and Director Paul Alexander Morales in the photo, recharging themselves with coffee moments before the 3rd show (first alternate cast).
Yes. PG-13 for explicit language and excessively rude/cute swearing.
With the first week done, there’s only 2 more weeks to catch MANHID and join the fight against Apathy.
