With a wealth of talent, imagination and inspiration, local artists still have a lot to offer to Filipino culture as we have witnessed at the Linggo ng Wika – Komiks ang Bida 2015 event at Fisher Mall in Quezon City last August 1, 2015. As August is National Language Month in the Philippines, the event was even more meaningful as those who share the passion for our own brand of visual and performance arts, komiks and cosplay got to gather, collaborate and celebrate our truly unique and dynamic culture.
Presented by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, Fisher Mall, Hero TV, GTMACCON and National Cosplayers of the Philippines, Linggo ng Wika – Komiks ang Bida 2015 was a celebration of Pinoy Komiks, still very much alive today through the efforts of local comic book creators and artists who are unwavering of their love and support of what is truly and distinctively Filipino. These innovators and artists were there personally to meet with their readers and present their works to the public.
Some rowdy villain cosplayers went into a fit harassing one of the hosts. Thankfully Narda (Carina Crisostomo) transformed into Darna and put them in their place. Of course this was staged and the crowd enjoyed it while the song “Narda” was being played by the band.
Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldisimo, creators of Trese, presented their 9 panel poster that was going to be raffled of at the end of the event.
Linggo ng Wika – Komiks ang Bida 2015 was an interesting and exciting event that reminded everyone that we still have a lot of talent in the visual arts and comic book industry just waiting to be discovered, and that they can contribute significantly to our culture.
