Talking Apples is where your fandom comes to life, and what more popular fandom right now than idols as singing and dancing characters highlight their August Pop-up Cafe. There’s always something new and exciting every month at Talking Apples Maid & Butler Cafe, and that one Saturday lots of folks got to drop by, check out the sights and join in the fun.
Despite the stormy weather, there was already a queue by1 pm outside 121 Restaurant at the 2nd floor of 2284 Allegro Center, Pasong Tamo Extension in Makati. It was apparent that people were excited because this month’s edition was an Idol Cafe, with Love Live and Vocaloids and an open mic for fans who wish to sing their favorite anime or Love Live songs.
Even though the weather is unpredictable that weekend, people still came to the pop-up cafe because, from our interviews, the guests enjoy the cafe and that its not the typical event they always get to attend. Talking Apples is a chance for them to really relax and have fun with fellow fans and celebrate their fandoms. The sight of smiles and sound of music and laughter all around were proof of that.
Inside, the event was lively from the start to the end. Everyone was singing and dancing. Some played card games, some enjoyed the food while others enjoyed interacting with the meidos and butlers who were delightfully in character and were doing their best making their guests feel at home.
The open mic session was a huge draw, and guests were actively into it. At one point the cafe closed it’s lights for a woman who requested it as she sang, and everyone got to feel her great performance. At other times, singers were loud and rowdy but it was all in stride as everyone was just there for a good time.
There are booths outside the cafe with a variety of merchandise. There was a beerpong table (well, without the beer), where people got to play or try it out, and it made for really strange but enjoyable interaction from everyone. How it worked was one of the players would ask a question about anime, and if their opponent answered incorrectly, he or she would shoot the ping pong ball at the cups in front of his or her opponent, and if the opponent got the answer, then he or she would take the shot instead. It was fun because one could see how knowledgeable they were about the many strange but interesting things about anime.
The event ended by evening, and with people still chatting and smiling and singing on their way home, it was a sign that the Talking Apples August Pop-up Idol Cafe was a big hit. Overall we must say this was one of the most engaging events Talking Apples has had. Everyone was wishing for another open mic session because they were some who weren’t able to sing because they were shy, but said that next time they would sing for sure.
