We had the unexpected but nevertheless fortunate opportunity to meet some of our really great cosplayer friends while covering an unrelated event early this year. They tell us that they just got to know of each other online and had decided to meet up and probably have a shoot together. They have become prominent cosplayers of characters from the wildly popular Japanese webcomic, manga and anime One Punch-Man, and they have had much fun portraying some of their quirky but memorable cast.
We only had 20 minutes or so to take photos, but we guessed it was enough for a sudden initial encounter. In that short span of time we got to share our love of the series as we anxiously looked forward to a second season.
Richard Concepcion leads our small roster of cosplayers, portraying the lead character Saitama. Richard has been cosplaying for quite some time now, just enjoying events and conventions, portraying bald characters, making some friends along the way. He then got to cosplay Saitama late last year, then the sudden popularity of One Punch Man series got to propel him to prominence withing the community.
Lyron Aquino portrayed the powerful cyborg Genos, a cosplay he got to first present at an event in Malaysia. Lyron is an esteemed cosplayer, crafter, competitor, judge and speaker known here and abroad, and his works are nothing short of extraordinary.
Gibs Sagun cosplayed the unyielding hero Mumen Rider, a memorable character from the series, rounding up our roster for our small shoot.
We hope we can get to have them again next time for a proper photoshoot. We also hope you can get to support them in their endeavors.
