Overcoming all odds, the wildcard team Wil New Era was crowned as champions of the very first Regional AOV Valor Cup, taking home the lion’s share of the huge prize pool worth more than PHP 1,200,000 (USD23,000) for Arena of Valor (AOV) at the Trinoma Activity Center in Manila, Philippines today in front of more than 1,500 spectators.
Four teams, M8HEXA.PenangFood (Malaysia), Tamago (Singapore), Clutch Guild (Philippines) and Wil New Era (Philippines) emerged on top after outclassing and outperforming a field of over 260 teams at the qualifiers stage through to a National Finals at each country including a Wild Card tournament. As the Top 4 finishers, all teams have earned themselves automatic qualification into the Road to AWC Invitationals. The winner of Road to AWC Invitationals will represent the Valiant Server at the AOV World Cup (AWC) in Los Angeles later this year. At the AWC, they will be competing to be against 11 other global teams from to be crowned the World Champions and walk away with a prize pool of USD550,000 (RM2.2million, PHP28.6million).
The day started off with a couple of tightly contested semifinals with the local teams taking full advantage of the home ground advantage to set up an all Filipino Showdown in the Finals! It was a test of will power and endurance as Clutch Guild and Wil New Era revved into another gear and willed themselves to go the distance with Wil New Era securing the title after coming from a 3-to-1 game deficit to clinch the title in the Best-of-7 series. Justin Lye, the Product Manager of Arena of Valor (AOV), said, “We are humbled by the overwhelming support for Valor Cup. This is the first regional AOV tournament for the Valiant server so we are really happy to see more than 260 teams signing up from Malaysia, Singapore, and the Philippines. We can’t wait to see how far we can go with Valor Cup 2: Road to AWC.” Over the course of the day, fans gathered at Trinoma Activity Center in Quezon City, Philippines to cheer their favorite team in the first ever AOV Valor Cup Grand Finals involving all 3 countries – Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines.
