For the second straight year, even long after the famed anime had stopped airing, history was made yet again as legions of fans and enthusiasts stormed the Bayanihan Center in Pasig City for Born To Make History: A Yuri!!! on ICE Fan Gathering 2. As the much anticipated sequel of the much talked about Born To Make History: A Yuri!!! on ICE Fan Gathering held last year, the people behind it went all out to again treat their fellow fans to features and attractions that made last year’s event such an astonishing hit.
As with the inaugural event, Born To Make History: A Yuri!!! on ICE Fan Gathering 2 was all about the fans who watched the series, fell in love with the characters and became enthralled in the world of A Yuri!!! on ICE. This gathering was a celebration of what was good about the series and about the people who shared the same fascination and admiration for it.
There were a lot of different activities like talks and panels going on all throughout the day that the attendees could go to, participate, and enjoy, while its centerpiece, the Artist Alley and Merchant Market, provided a pleasant venue for fans to get their fill of wonderful sought-after artwork and merchandise.
The Meet and Greet session with the special guest cosplayers was one of the most awaited highlights of the event. Returning to YOICON was our very own accomplished figure skater Joel Minas cosplaying Yuri Katsuki. Brought together for the first time in the country and to YOICON were Phil Mizuno from Canada and Barimor from Saint Petersburg, Russia, both of which are acclaimed and accomplished cosplayers.
The special guests were greeted with screams from their avid fans as the session started, just a small hint of how much the fans have been waiting for this moment. As they settled down and introductions made, the special guests were thrown quite a number of questions by their adoring fans. One can feel the respect and the love that the fans have for the skill and and dedication the guests have for their craft as well as their shared love for the animated series. There were lots of touching, emotional and lighthearted moments during the session as well.
After the session, the fans got an added treat as they got to participate in the picture taking with the special guests. They got to be up close and personal with them as they had the time of their lives taking photos with them, something that they’ll remember for a very long time.
All in all, Born To Make History: A Yuri!!! on ICE Fan Gathering 2 was a stellar success as it had given the fans what they had been longing for and more, providing them the attractions and the experience of the world that Yuri on Ice had left them all this time.
