Toucon 2018 was organized by Ateneo de Manila University’s Toushin held at Bellarmine Field last April 20.
The event is open to all and the organizers provided a map to help non-Ateneans find the place. Outsiders should bring an ID in order to get inside the campus.
Their advertisement for the event was rushed, causing less number of people reached.
It was a bit underwhelming to see the number of attendees. Despite that, many participated in their contests. It was fun seeing all the costumes and performances onstage.
Fortunately, the event had lots of booths, so there were a lot of options one can do to enjoy.
The Q&A portion for the guests could have been handled better. Maybe next time they can post a thread in their page collecting well thought out questions for the guests, eliminating dead air onstage.
Conventions depend heavily on proper advertisement. Publicity materials should have been posted on all possible social media platforms at least a week before the event date. A suggestion to widen their reach for possible attendees would be to create a giveaway that involves shares and tags.
For more concise media coverage, sending out a brochure about the event would be advantageous.
The organizers could also partner up with nearby organizations (as many as they can). Include a required number of attendees (and required number of likes for their pages) from the organization in their partnership package.
Lastly, it is beneficial to pump up the hype through a countdown and hints of what to expect there days before the said date.
With this, I hope the next events get better and better. I wish you good luck on your endeavors and hopefully you all could reach great heights.
