The best in mobile gaming awaits as the highly anticipated international mobile MOBA esports tournament by Garena and Tencent Games, Arena of Valor World Cup (AWC) 2019, will host its group stage to finals for the first time in Da Nang, Vietnam, from end June to mid July.  With USD 500,000 in prize money up for grabs between 12 teams from 9 regions, AOV maintains one of the highest international esports prize pool amongst other similar mobile MOBA genres.

These 9 regions include Chinese Taipei, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Singapore/Malaysia/Philippines, Korea, America/Europe, Mainland China, as well as newcomers Japan.  AWC 2019 marks Japan’s first participation in an AOV international tournament since the game introduced their Japanese server in November 2018.  Each team is selected by their respective region’s qualifier process.

The prize pool for AWC 2019 includes USD 200,000 for the champion, USD 110,000 for the firstrun ner-up and USD 50,000 for the 3rd and 4th placed winners respectively.

As announced previously, to better improve the spectator experience, AWC 2019 will introduce the “Global Ban Pick” mode from the knockout stage onwards. Global BP is a rule that the same hero cannot be played more than once in a game within the same team. Heroes that were used by the team in the previous match are automatically banned in their remaining matches during the same game, thus increasing gameplay and hero pick diversity.

For the Malaysia/ Singapore/ Philippines region, the representatives have been chosen via Valor Cup that was held last 10th March 2019 by ESL. Team M8HEXA will represent Malaysia at AWC 2019. They have also placed first during the Malaysian Esports Selection 2019 for SEA Games last weekend.

The inaugural AWC was hosted in Los Angeles, USA, last year and reported a total viewership of over 33,000,000 as well as over 630,000 peak concurrent viewers in Southeast Asia and Chinese Taipei alone.  AWC 2019 follows a record-breaking season during 2018’s Arena of Valor International Championship (AIC) for highest mobile esports hours viewed globally1. AIC reported a total viewership of over 58,000,000 globally at the end of last year. Garena AOV can be downloaded through the Google PlayStore ( here ) for Android users as well as through the Apple App Store ( here ) for iOS users.
