The local cosplay community has been ecstatic as the much-anticipated comeback of live events finally arrives with Cosplay.ph’s first hybrid event, Cosplay Mini Matsuri 2021, held at the SMX Convention Center from December 28 to December 30, 2021. A lot of meticulous preparations have been made in earnest to ensure that health and safety protocols were strictly observed and that the event was organized in the best possible way. It’s been two years since the last major cosplay convention and the organizers wanted to ensure everyone found a safe space within the event in order to enjoy themselves.

For six years running, Cosplay Matsuri has always been a well-attended and bustling event, and with its legion of patrons and attendees missing the experience of live events, tickets for the event have sold out within days of announcement. For over six years, Cosplay Matsuri has been the community’s favorite year-end event, and Cosplay Mini Matsuri was the first hybrid event by Cosplay.ph and accommodated both onsite and online activities.

Programs ran all three days both onsite and online that included games, contests, features, attractions, raffles and auctions that the attendees got to enjoy. As onsite attendees got to browse the many exhibitors and booths and check out the attractions at Hall 2 of the SMX Convention Center, everyone could still be an attendees as one of the online audience members who can watch and participate in the games, join the Fun Raffle and get a chance to win prizes, then get a glimpse of what’s going on at the convention through event updates.

The contests were especially fun and engaging as both onsite and online attendees got to cooperate in real time to answer trivia and perform tasks as teams. Games such as Nanda Kore?!, Clash of Fans and Shadow Play totally engrossed contestants and audiences alike in testing their wit and knowledge of games and anime.

Acclaimed cosplayer from Thailand Thames Malerose also got to join the festivities as a special guest online. He indulged his Filipino fans with an interview cosplaying as Sonic from One Punch Man as he did promotions in partnership with TrueID and Animax. He even had an engaging Meet and Greet session with some lucky fans on the last day of Matsuri for an experience the attendees were sure to remember for a long time.

Cosplay Mini Matsuri 2021 only became a reality through the dedicated staff of Cosplay.ph, whose dedication to cosplay and bringing smiles to the members of the community never wavered in the silence and darkness of the past two years. The community of cosplayers, fans, artists, and con goers are truly thankful.

We earnestly hope that this can be a good first step into bringing cosplay events back into the lives of those in the community. Cosplay Matsuri will definitely be an event to remember as we all continue to hope for better days amidst the pandemic.
