it was a tradition and celebration that marked the coming of summer, and Ateneo Hinomoto once again got to welcome revelers from all over to ride the rhythm and and dance to the beat at Natsu Matsuri: Odore! last March 21 at Bellarmine Field in Ateneo de Manila University. As a fun and enjoyable Japanese summer festival filled with incredible games, food, merch, and live performances to dance the night away, Natsu Matsuri continues to show how students organizations can contribute positively to the J-culture and pop culture community.
For almost a decade, Natsu Matsuri by Ateneo Hinomoto has drawn J-culture and music enthusiasts from all over the country, offering an enjoyable experience under the sky just as summer begins. Taking inspiration from Japanese summer festivals, Natsu Matsuri is a one-night fair which mixes the traditional and modern cultural scenes of Japan, featuring fascinating performances, food and booth games at Ateneo de Manila University’s Bellarmine Field, and is free and open to everyone.
As bustling and lively as any festival, Natsu Matsuri had an abundance of sellers displaying and hawking the most fantastic merch, collectibles, accessories, crafts, art, and everything in between and exhibitors provided engaging activities. Of course, the food concessionaires were a big hit with the attendees too.
At Natsu Matsuri, everyone gets the authentic experience of a summer festival with the fun and lively booths filled with games, challenges and mysteries that Hinomoto themselves manage and take part in. Participants got to have a great time and got to take home prizes as well.
As a highlight of Natsu Matsuri, spectacular performers went on stage to deliver the melodies, rhythms and beats that enlivened the summer night in Ateneo with a festive atmosphere. One of the best things about Natsu Matsuri was just being able to sit down or lay on the grass while watching the stage performances from some very talented artists. Festivals and entertainment go hand in hand, and there were plenty of live performances featuring bands and groups throughout that night.
Natsu Matsuri captures the essence of a festival, a time to simply enjoy each other’s company and to create timeless memories worth looking back on. All around the venue, all throughout the evening, you’d see friends, classmates, colleagues, family enjoying themselves amid the fanfare and entertainment under the summer evening sky.
Also admirable and amazing was how the guests were as colorful as the event, and attendees came in droves dressed in wonderful traditional Japanese fineries and in fascinating cosplays and costumes, and even Hinomoto’s own mascot.
