It was a fine Saturday afternoon as we were pleased to cover the Best of Anime (BOA) 2014: Inter-school Cosplay Competition at Adamson University in Manila last Saturday, August 2. As part of the various exciting activities that lead up to the main event of BOA 2014 this September, these cosplay competitions are held at various schools with the help of resident Japanese culture-related organizations to generate interest in anime, cosplay and the many other interesting aspects of Japanese pop culture.
The Adamson qualifiers was organized in part by Bunka Koryu Kai as part of their Nihon Fair 2014 celebration. Bunka Koryu Kai is a recognized co-academic Japanese Organization in Adamson University. It is an organization that represents the Nihongo student body and the interest that binds them, which is their interest in Japanese language and culture. Under the auspices and support of Primetrade Asia Inc., the organizer of BOA, the event was geared to feature the talents of the Adamson University studentry in music, cosplay and art.
Held at the Adamson University ST Quadrangle, Nihon Fair 2014 had many fun attractions for everyone like a maid and butler cafe, goldfish scooping, games, bands, and more. The highlight of course was the BOA Inter-school Cosplay Competition itself . The competition began with much anticipation from a good-sized audience who came into the venue quite curious about this unique event. Cosplayers came to perform on stage to the delight of the audience, each cosplayer relishing and enjoying the opportunity to cosplay and perform at their very own school. All were talented and gave their best as the judges looked on with the difficult task of picking out the best ones to will go on to perform at the main BOA event in September.
And of course, it’s always a delight to see costrippers there, enjoying themselves as they take photos and have fun with the crowd. It also gave us the chance to take their photos at a new venue.
Our commendations also to Primetrade Asia Inc. for sponsoring such events that encourage students who enjoy Japanese pop culture to work together and hold such activities at their schools.
All in all an enjoyable event. Everyone was friendly and we were well tended to. Hope to have more events like this in the future.
