Tamashii Convention, or TamaCon, is a Japanese Culture convention organized by Nihon Kenkyuu Kai. This year’s TamaCon is the third installment after TamaCon: TamaMatsuri in 2012.
Nihon Kenkyuu Kai (日本研究会) is a professional organization that caters to De La Salle University’s Japanese Studies majors as well as members of the community who are interested in Japanese culture.
There are lots of things to look forward to at Tamashii Convention 2015, so rest assured there will never be a dull moment:
Onstage Events
Japanese Culture Talk
To open the event, De La Salle University professor and Nihon Kenkyuu Kai faculty adviser Dr. Benjamin San Jose will take the stage. With his talk entitled “The Shojo in Japanese Pop Culture: Hayao Miyazaki and its Resonance to the Philippine Social Experience” bring a new insight on Japanese Pop Culture.
Kawaii Philippines Fashion Show
We’ve partnered with Kawaii Philippines to bring you kawaii Japanese fashion to the runway with two fashion shows. One will be held after the culture talk and the other in the afternoon.
Cosplay Competition
Of course, what’s a Japanese Culture event without the popular cosplay competitions demonstrating excellent craftsmanship and roleplay? The competition will be held in the afternoon with special guests Aze, Kira Hokuten, and Kuri Curry as judges!
JPop Idol Competition
Sing and dance to the many JPop cover groups that will be performing their way to the top! Mimi Monster, Mika Mikachu, and Miki Kun will participate as special guest judges!
Live Band Performances
In between the onstage events, bands Asterysk*, Strange Orange, Veralia, Hoshi to Sora, and Dimension Lines will rock the stage with great rock music!
Offstage Events
The Cake & Coffee Club Cafe
Tamashii Convention will set up its very own popup cafe where you can escape the rush of the main event hall and enter a relaxing atmosphere filled with the scent of coffee, tea, and freshly prepared treats! There will also be a surprise event sometime in the afternoon. Stay tuned!
Summer Matsuri Booths
What other way to enjoy a little bit of Japan’s famous festivals than some booths inspired by summer matsuri? Test your fortune and make a wish at the Omikuji and Ema booths, and show your skills at the Target Game and Kingyo Sukui!
Display Exhibits
We’ve partnered up with several exhibitors such as OtaKai Figure Society and Team Oniichan to set up amazing exhibits to feast your eyes on!

A (Special!) Photobooth
Probably one of the first in local conventions, we’ll be putting a very special twist in our photobooth inspired by a popular Japanese meme. (It involves at least two people and a wall.)
