Strengthening the bonds between Japanese and Filipinos through music, dance, and culture, the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines  presented the 2015 J-Pop Anime Sing and Dance Contest at SM Cinema Centerstage at the SM Mall of Asia last July 25, 2015.  Already on its seventh year, this annual competition has showcased the best Japanese pop culture-inspired performances by talented Filipinos as part of Philippines-Japan Friendship Month.

The JPOP Anime Sing and Dance Contest Fans of Japanese music and pop culture in the Philippines have always looked forward to this yearly event, as it has never failed to offer the best talents and performances as well as great entertainment as well.  Hundreds of groups and individuals from all over the Philippines send their entries every year, and for 2015, 10 individuals for the singing category and 5 groups for the dancing category have been chosen to perform and compete in the finals.

From the 5 finalists in the Dancing Category, “Fluffy Unicorns” won both First Place and the “Hero’s Choice Award”.

Besting nine other talented contestants, the Grand Prize in the Singing Category went to Maychell Hernandez.  She won for herself an all-expenses-paid trip to Japan besides many other nice prizes.

The other dancing finalists were: Kiss-my-boys, Seishun Kakumei, A-Crew and Hajimari. For singing: Sachi, Akano, Hibiki, Ana Enriquez, Vinar Takumi, Son of a Mitch, Kenichi Go Uang, Seiza and Lou Angeline Ulanday.

Congratulations to all the winners and we look forward to more awesome entries next year, and many thanks to the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines for continuing to bring these wonderful events to the public, and especially to fans of Japanese pop culture.
