Extraordinary artists gathered from all over the world got to show what exciting things are in store for fans of pop culture this weekend as AsiaPOP Comicon Manila 2016 held its press conference at the luxurious 5-star Hilton Conrad Hotel at the Mall of Asia Complex. Presented to the media were APCC’s special guests, world-renowned cosplayer Alodia Gosiengfiao, comic book veterans Whilce Portacio, Ken Lashley, and Mike Zeck, along with exceptional artists Jason Palmer and Shinichiro Kitai from DEVILROBOTS, all thrilled to meet fans and enthusiasts from all over this weekend.
Held at the plush C Lounge of Conrad Hotel along Seaside Boulevard in Pasay, the media had gathered in anticipation of the first glimpse of some of the special guests who will be gracing the second AsiaPOP Comicon Manila, touted as the biggest pop culture event in the country. After introductions by the host and a video recap of what exciting things transpired at last years event, some of this year’s esteemed guests were ushered in and were warmly welcomed by all in attendance. They got to respond to some interesting questions by the host, all hinting their excitement to get to meet everyone at the event. After answering, they got to have a photo op.
The media were then given the opportunity to conduct their own interviews of the guests, and the C Lounge was buzzing with witty conversation and excitement. We were thrilled to have been able to get to know more about these amazing artists face-to-face, and we will have our video footage of our interviews posted here soon.
Prominent home-grown cosplayer and artist Alodia Gosiengfiao expressed her excitement at being a special guest for APCC for the second straight year, and looked forward to judging the The CAGE, the world’s biggest and first-of-its-kind cosplay competition, as she expects even more grandiose and more spectacular cosplays from this year’s batch of contestants.
Shinichiro Kitai from DEVILROBOTS, a Japanese art group famous for their iconic To-Fu Oyako character cast, was gracious in showing us their latest creations, some of which attendees can purchase at APCC. He along with his other world renowned toy designers will be sure to bring their colorful and trendy art to the event.
Esteemed veteran comic book veterans Whilce Portacio, Ken Lashley, and Mike Zeck got to share their views on the resurgence of public interest in comic books and their characters and shared fascinating stories about their how they became enamored with the art form. They were earnest in their desire to meet their fans and fellow artists at APCC and hope to have a fun time with them.
This engaging press conference is of course only a small prelude to the huge things in store for everyone at AsiaPOP Comicon Manila 2016, the biggest pop culture event in the country in terms of size and scope, and quality of the exhibits, attractions and guests were on a scale the Philippines has never seen before. We are then so glad and excited to share with everyone that AsiaPOP Comicon Manila will be coming back this year even bigger than before, with wider unique content and even bigger international guests lined up for pop culture fans of all ages. AsiaPOP Comicon Manila 2016 is happening this weekend, August 26 to 28 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City, so we hope to see you there enjoying the festivities as we do a special coverage of all three days of APCC.
