It’s barely the start of the year and yet pop culture fans around the country are already ecstatic as an unbelievable line-up of guests was announced by the people behind Comic Con Asia 2018 at their press conference recently.  No less than legendary comic book icon Stan Lee will be gracing the event, slated for March 24 and 25 at the SMX Convention Center, along with a bewildering cast of pop culture personalities, cosplayers, artists and creatives.  The announced special guests, activities and features have made Comic Con Asia 2018, brought together by PSL Entertainment and Nam Entertainment Group, one of the most anticipated pop culture events of the year almost overnight.  arkadymac.com is a media partner for the event, and we’re glad to bring you great news from the press conference.

Held at the Grand Ballroom of Heritage Hotel, organizers, stakeholders, special guests and the media gathered for an evening of excitement as amazing news on  Comic Con Asia 2018 were unveiled, foremost of which was the announcement that comic book icon Stan Lee will be coming to the country for the very first time for appearances and meet-and-greet sessions.  This news was met with great interest and excitement by everyone.

Basketball enthusiasts are also in for a treat as NBA superstar Ray Allen will also be coming to meet up with fans all over the region and celebrate the 20th year anniversary of the release of his movie “He Got Game” at  Comic Con Asia 2018.  It will also be Morphin’ Time as Walter Jones, the original Black Ranger from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, will be flying in to meet up with fans of the franchise.

arkadymac.com has always been looking forward to what  Comic Con Asia 2018 will be offering for cosplayers, and suffice to say we were not disappointed with their announcements.  Comic Con Asia 2018 promises a shocase of activities, features and special guests to keep cosplayers from all over happy.  Mster crafter Chad Hoku aka Hoku Props will be sharing tips and tricks about the trade.  Renowned international cosplayer Linda Le aka Vampy Bit Me will be having a workshop on fabric costumes for cosplayers who want to level up their game.  Spectacular Austrian cosplayer Nana Kuronoma will be holding a Cosplay Posing & Facial Expression workshop for those who wish to know more about embodying characters.  Cosplay photographer Jay Tablante with special guest cosplayer Anna Redei aka Enji Night will be sharing pointers on cosplay photography.  There will also be Cosplay Match-Up, a unique cosplay competition where there will be 6 different categories based on cosplay type (cloth vs. cloth, armor vs. armor, anime vs. anime, etc.) and have cosplayer face off for huge prizes.

Also featured for  Comic Con Asia 2018 will be the realm of creative productions, with a series of talks, workshop and panel discussions will be led by renowned industry leaders.  Homegrown comic book artist Harvey Tolibao will be having a workshop together with Carlo Pagulayan aimed to enlighten and guide local artists.  Armad Serrano is Walt Disney’s Visual Development Artist and will be sharing his experiences on the development of characters from films like Mulan, Lilo and Stitch and Big Hero 6.  LEGO’s Ian Sta. Maria will also be giving futuristic character design tips and tricks with a talk and on-screen demos.  Jesse Yu aka J*RYU is an award-winning toy customizer and will be sharing his knowledge for enthusiasts to know more about toy design.  Yael Yuzon is Sponge Cola’s front man and will be unveiling his latest mini comic “Watership and Joy,” while Carlo Calimon of Startup Village and Jay Tablante will have a workshop on how to be a successful creative entrepreneur.  Dr. John Lent of Temple University will also be conducting a creative discourse about the comic book industry in Asia, along with Toni Masdiono, Nguyen Thang Phong, Jerry Hinds and Adi Nazri.

Comic Con Asia 2018 will also have signature and co-located competitions to present and recognize local creative talents.  The Great Filipino Graphic Novel Contest will be a venue to find the country’s up-and-coming creator , while Project X: The Search for the New Pinoy Superheroes will be featuring the newest breed of Filipino champions.   Comic Con Asia will be teaming up with The StartUp Village, the Animation Council of the Philippines (ACPI), and the Game Developers Association of the Philippines (GDAP), in launching One Shot, the search for the next big video game and animation idea.  Collectors will be looking forward to Auction Hero where they can bid on the rarest memorabilia, or go to the Trading Guild to exchange limited edition collectibles.

Among the personalities and luminaries present at the press conference, Senator Manny Pacquiao was there to share his thoughts and invite everyone to what is said to be a monumental event.

Comic Con Asia 2018 tickets are set to go on sale on January 25 and will be available through the  Comic Con Asia website, www.comiccon.asia with the one-day pass at 800 pesos and 1,300 for the two-day pass.
