It was a great day for local eSports as Filipino team ClutchGuild won against national representatives from Singapore and Malaysia last weekend at the Road to AWC Grand Finals at the SM Mall of Asia to claim their spot at the Arena of Valor World Cup (AWC) in Los Angeles on July 16, 2018.
Last weekend, the top three teams from Malaysia, Singapore, and the Philippines (MSP) clashed in the final leg of the Road to AWC after eliminating over 460 hopeful teams in the qualifiers which began with Valor Cup Season 1 which started in February 2018. Globe PPGL’s Valor Cup Season 2: Road to AWC came to a fitting conclusion with the Philippines National Qualifiers and the Road to AWC Grand Finals, highlighting the partnership between Globe and Garena AOV in the elevation and expansion of eSports in the Philippines.
“In Garena, we are constantly working to elevate the ecosystem and shape the perception of gaming among the community. Working with keen partners, like Globe, who share our vision helps accelerate the process and provides a platform for youths to be recognised at the international scene. Our success with the Valor Cups and Road to AWC has piqued the interest of industry players attune to eSports and we look forward to scaling our efforts,” said Mr. Jan Frederic Chiong, President of Garena Philippines.
Day 1, May 26, 2018, saw the Valor Cup Season 2: Road to AWC Philippines National Qualifiers brawl between Wil New Era, ClutchGuild, and Bren Esports. The tight and intense battle drew a lot of excitement as ClutchGuild came from the brink of defeat to be the Philippines national representative in what was a glorious revenge from the Valor Cup Season 1 Grand Finals.
The battle of the MSP nations kicked-off Day 2, May 27, 2018, with a Round Robin series featuring the three (3) national representatives – Resurgence from Malaysia, Tamago from Singapore, and ClutchGuild from the Philippines. The top 2 teams – ClutchGuild & Tamago – competed in the Road to AWC Finals in a Best-of-7 series with ClutchGuild emerging as the Road to AWC Grand Finals Champion. They will be heading to Thailand in the second week of June 2018 for an exclusive bootcamp together with the team representatives of other AOV regions.
