As one of the biggest celebrations of geek culture in the country, Cyberzone Geek Con 2024 fascinated and engaged fans and the curious alike last August 10, 2024 at SM City San Pablo as part of SM Cyberzone’s Cybermonth celebrations. Featuring an intense clash of cosplay skills called Cosplay Contenders as its highlight, cosplayers, enthusiasts and mall patrons got to experience a thrilling display of cosplay and the many different fandoms in the hobby community.

arkadymac.com has always been grateful to SM Cyberzone for always being supportive of cosplay and its community, which is why cosplayers responded in kind by attending in droves to take part in the festivities of Geek Con 2024. Besides this are other attractions for Cyberzone’s Cybermonth which included the Great Gadget Sale, and Tech Fair, all happening from August 1 to 3, Geek Con 2024 started out with the registration of participants as they signed up for what promised to be an exciting clash of cosplayers, with over 50,000 pesos in cash prizes and much recognition at stake.

Geek Con 2024 got to feature its two sensational guest cosplayers, Jane Yu and Pomponmy, with a Q&A on stage with host, arkadymac.com’s Editor-in-Chief, Jillian Rose, as they answered questions about their cosplays, about cosplay as a hobby, and what they would be looking for from the contestants at the cosplay contest that will make them stand out and win against the competition.

Cosplayers got to impress mall patrons with their colorful and intricate costumes as they went around the many wonderful venues of SM City San Pablo. Once they came back to the event area, Cosplay Contenders had begun with the pre-judging. From the many participants, the top 16 who will move forward to the next round of competition were chosen by an outstanding panel of judges which included prominent prominent cosplayer Pompomny, Razer Gold Brand Ambassador Arvhic John Verdida, and arkadymac.com’s Correspondent Jane Yu.

The main program promptly started with wonderful hosts Jillian and Kenkoy hyping the crowd and guiding the audience to the cosplay spectacle that was about to unfold.

First off was the Junior Cosplay Contenders for participants aged 14 and below. They got to show off their adorable costumes in their one-minute catwalk. In the end, a champion was chosen along with a Best in Genshin Impact Cosplay award from Razer Gold.

Cosplay Contenders was an exciting but challenging cosplay tournament that featured face-offs which got to showcase the skill, talent and creativity of cosplayers on stage. A pair of cosplayers competed against each other in several rounds, with only one of them advancing into the tournament.

From the Top16, there were down to 8, and then to the Final 4. They then battled in individual catwalks which lasted for a one-minute maximum where they showed their best moves and routines to impress the judges and the audience.

In the end, the top three were chosen, and the awarding ceremony saw them receive huge cash prizes from SM Cyberzone, and the others from the Top 16 got to take home cash prizes as well. The First Placer also got a guaranteed spot to compete at the Cosplay Mania Cup in October.

We are grateful to Cyberzone and SM City San Pablo for supporting cosplayers and the cosplay community by giving then a great event and venue where they can showcase their skills and show their love and passion for geek culture, and we look forward to many more such events in the future.
