Filipino fans of J-music were ecstatic beyond belief when it was announced at last year’s Cosplay Matsuri that a phenomenal Japanese voice actress, singer and idol performer would be coming to the country for the very first time to perform at the first-ever JAM Concert at Cosplay Carnival 2025. Shuka Saito has been adored and admired worldwide, widely acclaimed for her extensive work in Love Live! Sunshine!! as You Watanabe. She went on to become an impressive solo musician with her debut single, “Kutsuhimo,” later followed by another hit, “36°c/papapa,” the ending theme for Oresuki, among other accomplishments in the Japanese music industry.
Cosplay Carnival reached a new milestone as it celebrated its seventh year of delivering the best in cosplay, anime, and J-culture in the country, and making it even more epic was its first-ever JAM Concert at Hall 2 of the SMX. Fans just could not resist nor wait as they had the rare opportunity to catch one of the best performers from Japan live in our country. To let her fans get to know more about her, members of the media were invited to an interview with this spectacular artist, who, through an interpreter, gave engaging replies to a variety of questions.
arkadymac.com’s correspondent Marvin got to conduct our interview with Shuka Saito. We asked her how she felt when you found out that she had a lot of fans in the Philippines and that she has been invited to perform in the country. She said that she was very surprised when she got the invitation personally, as some of the Filipino fans wanted her to go to the Philippines. And when she got the invitation, she was very happy, and that… it was her dream, and it got her to realize that she’s very happy about it.
She also got to take questions from various media outlets. She was asked what she loves most about being a singer and a voice actress, she said it’s her expression, so expressing her songs and then expressing feelings of her
characters, she is performing as a voice actress.
She was asked if she had any dream roles or projects she’d like to work on in the future. She said that her dream is to sing or perform in every part, to convey her songs in every part of the world.
She got asked if there was a fun fact about herself that her fans might not know. She replied that she brings out a
lot of energy for her fans and make them energetic. But, she said, it’s kind of bit the opposite.because she wants to lie around and just laze around.
She was then asked how her solo career influenced her as a performer, and what kind of music or projects does she hope to explore in the future? Shes said that for her solo performances, for five years, she found out that she wanted to do: sing and then express the Japanese songs and bring it to the whole world.
She was asked what her pre-show routine was. She said that every time she performs, she’s very nervous. And, when she doesn’t get much confidence, she tries to pray to god for more success for her performance.
She was asked what she does every day to maintain her healthy lifestyle? She said that everyday she takes
supplements. She was then asked what kind of food makes her feel energized and motivated? she said she likes to eat curry rice to bring out her energy.
When asked if she had a message she’d like to share with her fans, she said that she just got here the day before, and then she got to go around. She saw a lot of things here in the Philippines, and then she thought that she wanted to live.
She then told everyone that she will be performing later that day. It’s was going to be her first time and
she’s very happy with it. She hopes that everyone would have a lot of energy when she
performs, which would bring a lot of energy to everyone, and that from then on, she guesses that she’ll be able to perform here in the Philippines.
It was on the evening of March 23 when Shuka Saito burst onto the JAM Concert stage to perform for the very first time in the Philippines. Amid the loud and passionate cheers from her ecstatic fans, she gave an enchanting and passionate performance. Her powerful voice wowed the crowd from start to finish, truly a performance only one of Japan’s top artists can manage to pull off that left her fans asking for more and wished for more of her in the future. Catching a glimpse of her on stage filled fans with delight, and watching her perform live was truly a thrilling and memorable experience.
