Individuals and groups from the cosplay community once again join hands to help out by participating at CausePlay, an event that aimed to gather people related to promulgate and advocate the rights of Filipinos with autism as members of society.
Organized by the Autism Society Philippines Bacoor Chapter, the event was held at SM City Bacoor last January 25, and it gathered people on the autism spectrum together with other modern visual culture enthusiasts of diverse abilities for a series of competitions and performances to express their interests in the genres of their choice through cosplay and the performing arts, while demonstrating an effort to make rights real for Filipinos with autism and other disabilities by promoting an inclusive and disability-friendly cosplay community.
CAUSEPLAY served as the Closing Ceremonies of the 18th National Autism Consciousness Week, a series of events held every third week of January. Themed “Katuparan ng mga Karapatan ng Pilipinong may Autismo… Isulong Mo! Ngayon Na,” the week-long celebration aimed to promulgate and advocate the rights of Filipinos with autism as members of society.
The highlight of the festivities was the cosplay competition. Many competitors showed off their amazing skills and unique costumes to the appreciative crowd. In the end, Christian Umali as War Machine won Best Male, Alexia Claire Sheridan as Yuna of Final Fantasy won best female and the People’s Choice Award went to Gabriel Cruz as Chewbacca of Star Wars.
There were a lot of other cosplayers at the site too who had fun interacting with the audience, some of whom had autism and had been taken care of by Autism Society Philippines.
The event ended early but it was a success as it was able to relay the message of hope for those with autism. Thank you for dropping by, and please visit us again for more features here at arkadymac.com.
