arkadymac.com is glad to be the media partner of Otaku Summer Jam 2014, a festive celebration of music, creativity, and all things otaku. Held last May 3, 2014 at B-Side at the Collective in Makati, Otaku Summer Jam showcased great local bands doing Japanese music as well as their own compositions.
As L5R Production’s first-ever foray into the otaku scene, Otaku Summer Jam was an afternoon of celebrating music and otaku enjoyment that attracted bands, cosplayers, enthusiasts, photographers and music lovers from all over. It was hosted by David d’Angelo cosplaying as Master Pogi from Dragon Ball, and he brought the action and commentary to the affair.
The highlight of the event was the Battle of the Bands, which featured Tainted Notes, Ochi Shison, Sadistic Massive Breakdown, Strange Orange, and Akihabara Station. They brought in lots of energy and noise into the venue to the delight of the crowd. asterysk*, Ikuzo Iwa, Haponesang Dilat, Akihabara Station, Myo na Hako and The Squeezers were guest bands who made the event even more enjoyable.
There was also the cosplay competition where cosplayers got to perform in front of an enthusiastic crowd with great music in the background.
Otaku Summer Jam was a small but fun event enjoyed and appreciated by all the folks who came that day. Everyone was involved, friendly, and engaged in each others passions for music, cosplay and Japanese culture. We look forward to the next installments as L5R Productions is keen on producing similar events every three months at least. We’d like to thank the management and organizers for having us over and count on us to eagerly cover the next one as well.
