arkadymac.com is an official media partner for Pinoy Otaku Festival 2014: Fantasm last weekend at Starland Themepark, 4th Level, Starmall Alabang. Lots of fun, excitement and surprises were in store for everyone as the organizers have promised an experience unlike any other.
Pinoy Otaku Festival 2014: Fantasm was dubbed as the “First Ever Live Action Role Play Event with Cosplay for a Cause,” as the event had free admission. All that was asked of guests was to just bring one notebook plus an additional school item like a ball pen, pencil, crayons, etc., upon entering the venue. The school supplies would later be given to our less privileged brothers and sisters this coming school year. Britannia from the anime series Code Geass was brought to life through cosplay, the castle setting and also mass participation from those within the venue. Also, the event was also the biggest gathering of otaku-related organizations in the country with groups from Manila, Laguna, Cavite, Bulacan, Tarlac and Bicol joining in.
There were great booths like RiiRiichan’s OMise Shop where they offered Anime Dimension Cards, an amazing app for mobile devices where you can have 3D images of your favorite anime and Vocaloid characters on your phone. Do contact RiiRiichan’s OMise Shop at https://www.facebook.com/ADC.OMISE for your very own cards.
Throughout the day, the event was kept exciting by the performances of bands like Ikuzo Iwa, Happy Ending, Hiyas, Strange Orange, School Milk for a Dime and Kung Fu Day. Raindrop, V’s Project, Kryzia Camille Santiago, Seiza, Tarlac Asian Dancers and performers from Anime Cosplay Empire also had numbers to the delight of the audience.
Highlights of the event include the 1st Bolen Lareza Cosplay Competition, the very first separate competition for chibi cosplayers named after one of the best chibi cosplayers in the Philippines, Bolen Lareza. Judges for the event will also be her fellow chibi cosplayers and all of them are also impressive, the panel consisting of prominent chibi cosplayers Ashley Misaki, Izaiah Luke Buelos and Belldandy Chii. There was also the Asia Music Festival Karaoke and Bandslam, a collection of singers and bands who brought energy to the event with Japanese songs and also some local melodies as well.
Then there was the Cosplay Idol Season 2 Finals, the culmination of the search for the cosplayer with both the talent and the drive for cosplay excellence. Courtesy of our friends at AnimePh Project, the winners were Izaiah Luke Buelos as Champion, Cykah Malagad for 2nd place and Ian Quinto for 3rd place.
And last was the Otaku Choice Awards, the first ever awards for the community, recognizing the favorites of the fans of popular Japanese culture in the country.
