Asia’s biggest and longest running convention for toys and hobbies is off to a terrific start as TOYCON 2o14 was underway with an exciting Day 1 the SM Megatrade Halls 1, 2 and 3 of SM Megamall. As the most awaited event of the year for toys, games, collectibles, cosplay, anime, comics, and whatever may find itself in between, as part of their media team we are glad to bring you our special coverage starting with Day 1 and the Play Night Party that really sent the event started in overdrive.
We were of course overwhelmed with the amazing number of exhibitors and retailers who had their merchandise already on display. Collectors and enthusiasts will surely be pleased with the bewildering number of toys and other collectibles on display and for sale.
The organizers weren’t kidding when they said that TOYCON would have the biggest exhibitor floor of all pop culture merchandise in terms of apparel, collectibles and memorabilia, graphic novels and comics, cosplay paraphernalia, and toys. One could literally spend most of the day just browsing through the many rare, unique and amazing merchandise on display or for sale at the best prices around.
Also to rave about are the great gaming companies featuring their hit and up-and-coming games. Be sure to visit them for free trials and lots of freebies.
We also dropped by our friends at Riri-chan’s Omise Shop for their amazing Anime Dimension Cards, an application that lets you view your favorite anime character in 3D on your choice of IOS, android or mobile device. Make sure to drop by to see their great collection.
Our friends at Cosmic Bytes Cosplay Shop was there to provide the latest in cosplay accessories, like wigs and lenses, and many other anime-related mechandise, so do drop by for the newest stuff.
The we have our friends from PID Clothing, where they have cool anime and game inspired hoodies on display. Their designs are truly creative and unique. I for one would love to have their new Nightwing-inspired hoodie, especially as it’s getting rainy lately.
Throughout the day, exhibits and features by chosen exhibitors were showcased at the event as people kept pouring in to partake in the many sights TOYCON had to offer.
Of course, cosplay will be our focus with the scheduled appearance of the world’s most prominent cosplayer, Ms. Alodia Gosiengfiao, as she will be busy performing for the ToyCon audience on the second day as well as judging the cosplay competition and meeting fans at her booth. At the evening of Day 1, the event really stated to heat up as the TOYCON 2014 Play Night Party went underway. This special kick-off party saw special performances from great groups made the night exciting and lively, which included sets by talented bands like Itchyworms, Ikuzo Iwa, Asterysk*, and Surface Intention. DJ Sky Jon got the crowd riled up with dance music selections for the Cosplay Party.
All-female singing and dancing group Mocha Girls gave what would decidedly be the highlight of the Play Night Party as they engaged the audience in their own brand of sultry entertainment to the delight of the crowd.
So TOYCON off to a great start, with still two more days of fun and excitement to go, so drop by this weekend at the SM Megatrade Halls 1, 2 and 3 of SM Megamall for a guaranteed great time with toys and a whole lot more.
