Cosplay meets fashion at a refreshing new event that showcased the best of local talents and creativity. Grand Cosplay Runway 2014 was the first of its kind in the Philippines as it was quite a spectacle at SM City Baliwag last December, drawing in participants from near and far, and arkadymac.com is happy to be a media partner for this event.
Organized by Naruto Cosplayers of the Philippines, Grand Cosplay Runway aims to promote cosplay as both a fashion and a hobby. Hoping to integrate these two concepts, Grand Cosplay Runway would be a fashion show that incorporates the many fascinating elements involved in cosplaying: the creativity and imagination that cosplayers have developed over time.
Since morning, cosplayers from Bulacan, North Luzon and even from Manila were flocking to the venue, excited as they have been preparing for the event weeks before. By afternoon, the stage was set, and the runway was ready ready for a show unlike any other this venue had seen before. 41 participants took to the catwalk, with a curious and appreciative crowd witnessing their performances. Seeing the cosplayers showing off their best was quite a sight.
All throughout the event, cosplayers were all over the venue having fun with friends and having fun taking pictures with the crowd. It was quite obvious that they were enjoying themselves being able to gather together like this and simply enjoy their hobby and passion.
The judges had a difficult time choosing the winners as all of them gave great performances. At the conclusion, the names of the chosen were called out, and for such a unique event, there were quite a variety of categories: Icon, the overall winner; Best in Costume, Characterization, Creativity, Originality, and People’s Choice. Special awards went to those who possessed exceptional qualities: Elegance, Masculine, Feminine, Genderbend, Innovation and craftsmanship.
The Grand Cosplay Runway Icon Award went to Tantin Meneses as Lenneth from Valkyrie Profile after putting on a splendid performance.
Our Cosplay Model Nicole won the Special Prize for Elegance, and we are of course very proud of her efforts.
Everyone had a great time at this truly unique event, and we’d like to thank Sir David for inviting us as well as everyone from NCPH for assisting in our coverage and making us feel welcome.
And such a successful event needs a sequel. Cosplay Runway 2 will be happening within Mata Expo 2015 on February 7, 2015 at One Esplanade in the Mall of Asia Area, so we hope to see you there for another great show.
