Simple photoshoots by groups of enthusiasts keep the cosplay community alive and busy as we covered the Sword Art Online PH First Open Photoshoot last weekend at the Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife in Quezon City. Though organized by a group of SAO fanatics, the shoot welcomed cosplays of any genre and participants once again got to see old friends and got to meet new ones. Helping us with this coverage is our photographer and meganekko, Kami.
Organized by SAO PH, the shoot took quite a while to prepare for, but they are of course pleased with the good turnout that particular Sunday, with mild weather allowing a proper event. Participants gathered near the Tea House for registration and instructions before cosplayers and photographers alike went around the park and have brief photoshoots with each other.
These open shoots are great venues for those who are new to cosplaying to develop their skills, and, more importantly, improve their self-confidence in front of the camera. For others who have been cosplaying for a while, it’s a chance for them to share their experience with the new ones and offer tips for improvement. It’s also an opportunity to meet up with old friends and catch up on each other’s lives and what’s new in the community over simple meals and snacks. There are those who get to meet new friends through their mutual interests and hobbies.
For the uninitiated, it may not seem much but these small events do indeed foster closeness within communities that strive to keep cosplay alive and enjoyable. We’d like to thank the organizers for putting together this cozy little gathering and having us over to cover and take part in their event.
We also chanced upon some friends on a Log Horizon Cosplay Group Shoot. It was great that they had most of the main cast and supporting ones, and we took the opportunity to do a short shoot of them as the day drew to a close.
After a long day of cosplaying and shooting, our group went to a local mall where we had dinner. Despite the fatigue, everyone was still in a jolly and friendly mood as we got to share a meal together while we chat and joked around. It was a great way to end a long but fun day.
