With just a week before the biggest cosplay event in the country, Cosplay Mania 2015 Roadshow held its last leg at SM Manila with non-stop cosplay action at the heart of the Metro. Organized by cosplay.ph, Cosplay Mania Roadshow along with TORCH Cosplay Tournament of Champions constitute a series of events that build up the excitement for Cosplay Mania ’15 on October 3-4 at the SMX Convention Center, SM Mall of Asia.
The event started out early in the afternoon with the Yoshinoya eating contest for both gents and ladies, where a fantastic display of speed eating amused the crowd gathered to watch the festivities. The winners got to take home a great meal set from Yoshinoya.
Then came the Cosplay parade, with mall patrons getting to see the cosplayers in their colorful and unique costumes, then followed by a group shoot at sponsor Yoshinoya restaurant as they had fun and photos with the customers and staff alike.
Warming up the crowd was an exciting performance from Jpop dance group Sugar 48, who will also be delighting the crowds at Cosplay Mania ’15.
Borealis also took the stage to amaze the crowd with their spectacular dance numbers.
cosplay.ph president Pablo Bairan in his Barbarian cosplay from Clash of Clans personally got to welcome everyone to the Cosplay Mania Roadshow, and along with seasoned cosplayer and crafter Guy Singzon, shared the many interesting activities and information about the event as well as the many other exciting events that lead up to Cosplay Mania ’15.
The hosts then proceeded to present their trademark game Facepalm the Music, where contestants had to guess the title or the series of the song being being played. They express their intention to answer by placing their palm on the volunteer’s face, hence the name. It was fun guessing the songs and some in the audience were eager to answer those themselves.
After some more games, the Cosplay Mania Roadshow leg of the Solo Showdown cosplay competition began. Under the scrutiny of three very skilled and knowledgeable judges headed by Guy Singzon with talented cosplayer Kashia Labio, the competition was a catwalk face-off where cosplayers were given the opportunity to show off their cosplays to everyone, showcasing their creativity and characterization.
SM Manila leg’s TORCH qualifiers then gave an action-packed performance. They will take part in the championships set on Cosplay Mania itself, competing with the other winners from the various TORCH qualifiers from all over the country.
As the scores were tabulated, more games were held on stage. We took the opportunity to do our rounds and do shoots of the cosplayers who were enjoying themselves at the event, all busy having their photos taken by a curious and appreciative crowd. Sir Pablo also had fun mixing it up with the crowd.
Then it came time to announce the winners for the competition. Each participant did their best, but it was the time to acknowledge those who really stood out. The top three impressed everyone with their own elaborate and stunning creations. The Demon Hunter of Diablo III cosplayer earned the right to compete for the finals against other leg winners at Cosplay Mania itself.
Many thanks to cosplay.ph for organizing these exciting but free events that allow more people to experience and enjoy cosplay.
