“Kita” in Japanese can mean “north,” and it was fitting that the vibrant and earnest cosplay and otaku community of La Union has named the event they have worked long and hard for as KitaCon: the North Anime Convention. A lot of people came to the Agoo Civic Center despite the dismal weather, and they were not disappointed as they were in for a very pleasant experience. Great entertainment, special guests, fabulous contests and lots of booths, freebies and attractions were open and ready for everyone, and what’s even more admirable was that the proceeds of the event would be donated to the children of Hands of Hope Faith Academy.

Organized by the La Union Cosplay Organization and RED Manga Alliance, KITACON 2018 was truly a delightful cosplay and Japanese pop culture adventure as it spreads the love of cosplay in La Union and everywhere up north. Hosted by Lora with Venus, along with special guests cosplayers Guy Singzon, Lix, and Kirk, along with the Agoo Queens, they got to keep the excitement going all day long.

There were fun booths, amazing toy and photo displays, awesome eating contests, enjoyable games, a Gundam Kit Competition and a Yu-Go-Oh tournament, making sure there was something for everyone attending to enjoy.

Lots of splendid and colorful cosplayers were in attendance, and they had fun having their photos taken by con goers and fellow cosplayers alike.

The highlight of KitaCon2018 is the Cosplay Competition for Solo and Chibi where the spectacular cosplayers from La Union and beyond got to show off their skills and talents on stage for recognition and great prizes. Serving as judges for the competition were accomplished cosplayers and special guests Guy Singzon, Lix, and Kirk.

After the awarding of the winners and the recognition of the people and organizations who made KitaCon 2018 a huge success, it was finally time to say goodbye but everyone left with a smile on their faces. It was a sure sign that the effort, hard work, perseverance and sleepless nights of everyone behind the event was well worth it. Our gratitude and congratulations to La Union Cosplay Organization and RED Manga Alliance and everyone who made KitaCon 2018 a reality and for making sure that the love for cosplay and Japanese pop culture was still very much alive in La Union and the north.
