One of the community’s best-loved mid-year events was back as it brought a weekend’s worth of festivities and lots of attractions for all its avid fans. Otaku Expo Tanabata Festival finally came back live last August 20-21, 2022 at Megatrade Halls 2-3 of SM Megamall. Otaku Expo has been catering to anime fans and cosplayers since 2010, and this tradition of fun and enjoyable events continues with the Tanabata Festival, designed for con goers to enjoy Japanese festival activities and get to win exciting prizes.

Long regarded as a favorite mid-year event by fans of anime and cosplay, Otaku Expo brings fun and enjoyment in a festive atmosphere with the Tanabata Festival as the theme. With vibrant displays of kimonos among many new attractions at the Tanabata activity area, attendees were in for a treat as it even had bamboo where you can hang your wishes for the season. Cosplayer and congoers alike enjoyed having photos there.

Headlining Otaku Expo Tanabata Festival were a lovely pair of cosplayers from Hong Kong:  花梨Hanari and 桃桃 * Toto cosplay OwO. Their Filipino fans couldn’t get enough of them as they made special stage appearances along with Meet and Greet sessions throughout both days of the event.

Special performances from groups like LoveSo were a hit with fans and kept the event lively and engaging on both days.

Lots of the mainstay activities like the Anime Singing Contest and Cosplay Competition were back to the delight of the supportive crowd who have come to see members of their community give their best performances on stage. arkadymac.com’s Correspondent Jane Yu was one of the judges along with Roxanne Kho and Yana Alde. They got to choose the winners who got to take home some really amazing prizes from the organizer and sponsors like MSI.

Otaku Expo Tanabata Festival also got to host the First Cat and Dog Cosplay Competition. Pets got to be in anime-inspired costume and got to have short performances with their owners/handlers on stage, to the cheers and adoration of the crowd.

The audience was particularly excited as segments from sponsors WACOM and MSI had pretty amazing giveaways, and by the end of the event, a raffle was held where great figures and the grand prize of a brand new Nintendo Switch was given away.

We commend the Ozine Fest, the organizers behind Otaku Expo Tanabata Festival for a job well done of making the community happy with a fun and engaging event, as well as gratitude to all of the staff who made the event possible. See you all at their next event.
