Nothing gets blood and adrenaline pumping like a classic fighting game, and that was why the thrill and excitement never ceased even just one bit last weekend at the much-anticipated live return of REV Major last September 17 to 18 at the SMX Convention Center Manila. With the battle cry of #DoItAgain, multitudes of fans of fighting games flocked to this spectacle where top players from all over the world had come to compete for glory and recognition.

arkadymac.com is proud to be the media partner for Rev Major for many years now, and helping us cover Rev Major are our Editor-in-Chief Jillian and Correspondents Sab and Nicki, all of whom enjoy different kinds of gaming, and both eager to see what the event had in store for fans like them.

The love and passion for fighting games burned anew as REV Major fulfilled on its promise of bringing back the hype with a huge venue filed with huge screens all over for the maximum enjoyment of attendees. With entire sections devoted to different fighting games both old and new, there was definitely something for anyone who wanted to enjoy and celebrate with the community.


Excitement and intensity levels were at their utmost as different world tours happened all throughout REV Major. Foremost was the Tekken World Tour which encompasses tournaments from across the globe that sought to find the best of the best players that will get to compete at the Tekken World Finals. REV Major also hosted the regional leg of the ArcSys World Tour that determines the best Guilty Gear-Strive and DNF Duel players from all over the world. And one of particulatr interest was the DragonBall Fighter Z World Tour that featured the strongest DBFZ players.

Aside from the scheduled world tours, REV Major also got to host several equally exciting tournaments which included Street Fighter V, Marvel vs Capcom 2, KOF XV, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Melty Blood Type Lumina, Grandblue Fantasy Versus, Soul Caliber VI and Mortal Combat 11 Ultimate. The battles were a veritable fighting bonanza that figured many talented players from all over the world, as well as the casters who gave each battle informative and often equally entertaining commentary.

Thrilling fans of fighting games were two international fighting game superstars who were invited as Rev Major guests. Daigo, the Japanese pro player who currently holds a world record of “the most successful player in major tournaments of Street Fighter” in the Guinness World Records and 6-time Evo championship series winner, was there for appearances and a book signing. Then there was the famous Tekken commentator and Director of Global Business Development for Evolution Championship Series – The world’s largest competitive gaming event and experience, MarkMan, got to cast the Tekken World Tour segment and got to meet his local fans.


Rev Major also got to feature many high-profile sponsors whose goals and vision aligned well, like ASUS, ViewSonic, RUMBLE ROYALE, Rotobox PH, Red Bull and community partner GG Truck. They got to offer fun experiences and freebies to ecstatic and grateful attendees.


The fighting game communities also hosted their own tournaments and gimmicks in the FGC bay in partnership with GG Truck, featuring different activities by Thems Fighting Herds, Smash Melee Community, NTR Gaming, Midnight Mashers among others. The all brought their high energy levels for battle at Rev Major.


And then there was Retro Rev, one of the more entertaining sections of Rev Major which is a blast from the past game style. Retro REV had more than enough to send players reminiscing about the past as they played various retro games from Super Famicom, Playstation classic, Sega Saturn and more on CRT TVs.


And for veeteral con-goers and the curious first-timers alike, REV Major’s merch and artist alley got to showcase different art, t-shirts plus other game-centered merch such as various favorite hero and character action figures, console buttons and arcade sticks.


And of course, arkadymac.com was there for the cosplayers, We got to spot some that had Rev Major’s theme in mind and they were splendid!

Rev Major was a bastion for the FGC community and its return managed to reconnect old ties and rekindle everyone’s passion for this genre, and its live return was a huge success thanks to the organizers, Gariath Concepts, the magnanimous sponsors, and the FGC community who continued to support this event over the years.
