As engaging as it was exciting, Hobby Exposure Convention 2023 made its mark as a premier event for hobby enthusiasts in the Philippines. Having promised and delivered an admirably diverse range of attractions and activities which included gaming, cosplay, interactive workshops, and community building opportunities, Hexcon Baguio was a testament to how a community can make a huge, positive impact on events.
The prestigious Baguio Convention and Cultural Centre got to welcome fans and enthusiasts from all over the country last August 12 and 13, 2023. Attendees were greeted with a fantastic variety of booths, exhibitors, and attractions that kept the event fun and enjoyable, with great finds to be had and wonderful people to meet.
While on stage, various activities were led by talented hosts, Cholo Tolentino and Erwin Mayocdan. These charismatic individuals lent their expertise in creating an engaging and vibrant atmosphere throughout the convention. HexCon Baguio had an exceptional lineup of guests who are renowned and celebrated for their extraordinary crafts and skills. Among the remarkable guests gracing the event are Gelo Grayson, Dinny Grayson, Solibeau, Nyaaati, Jayson Tablante, and Charess. These individuals have made significant contributions to their respective fields, captivating audiences with their awe-inspiring creations.
HexCon Baguio attendees were given front row seats as these esteemed guests conducted exclusive workshops, sharing their expertise in their chosen fields. Gelo Grayson, a master of 3D printing, provided invaluable insights into this innovative technology. Solibeau, an accomplished entrepreneur, shared expertise in the made-to-order (MTO) business. Nyaaati conducted a workshop focused on fitness and well-being. Jay Tablante unveiled the secrets behind capturing stunning cosplay images. Dinny Grayson had a stage panel segment on “How to transform your features through makeup.”
All throughout the weekend, a variety of attractions and stage segments kept attendees engaged and excited, from a Game Development panel, tech wear fashion show, solo and group cosplay competitions, band performances, and a gravure talk among others.
Alongside HexCon Baguio is one of the more intriguing events this year. Ero Cosplay Holic, an adult-oriented convention that pushed the boundaries of traditional cosplay events, boldly gave a glimpse of daring cosplay, tantalizing art, and exclusive merchandise that transcended the limits imposed by conventional events in Baguio, and even by events in other parts of the country.

I first heard about HexCon through my favorite shop, Baguio Cosplay Costumes and Novelty Shop. I closely followed the event’s developments for months since some of my friends were involved in its organization. My companions and I were warmly embraced by the Baguio community, and venturing to an out-of-town convention was like a breath of fresh air. The convention venue was spacious, with well-arranged booths that allowed for a seamless crowd flow. Numerous workshops took place over the course of the event, but I was particularly engrossed in Solibeau’s session on costume crafting and made-to-order (MTO) creations. In addition to HexCon, I also dropped by their partner event called ECHO intermittently. Many of my friends set up booths there, and it was a treat to see a segment host, Nio, donning the personas of Muzan and Ursula (quite the shape-shifter, I must say!). Interestingly, a large portion of the individuals I interacted with hailed from Manila. Given the event’s ability to capture attention from various corners, even drawing in participants like SJ from Davao, I would label this gathering as a resounding success. I’m looking forward to their future events, especially the Renaissance Faire next year!
With such an impressive lineup of attractions and guests, HexCon Baguio ensured an unforgettable experience for attendees, providing them with opportunities to learn from the very best in the industry. The convention got to empower and inspire hobby enthusiasts, enabling them to explore new horizons and nurture their passions further.
