Already an eagerly awaited festival of acclaimed Japanese films, EIGASAI once again invites everyone in the country to partake in a generous offering of diverse genres of cinematic masterpieces from Japan.   The 21st Japanese Film Festival opened last July 4 at Greenbelt with the Philippine premiere of CHIHAYAFURU Part 3, with its esteemed director Nori Koizumi gracing the event. The Japan Foundation, Manila, celebrating the 21st anniversary of its Japanese Film Festival (JFF), widely known as EIGASAI, had announced the full lineup of films and special guests for JFF | EIGASAI 2018.   In honor of the Philippine-Japan Friendship Month, EIGASAI’s 21st edition runs from July 4 to August 26, 2018, ﹣with fifteen full-feature films of diverse genres selected for more than 100 screenings across five major cities nationwide. This year’s film festival is set to be unique as it collaborates with other Japan Foundation arts, cultural and dialogue projects.

Special performances from artists and cultural groups highlighted the importance of the flow of ideas and culture between Japan and the Philippines.

Welcoming remarks from important personages instrumental to the organization of this year’s EIGASAI, including Director Hiroaki Uesugi of the Japan Foundation, Manila,  filled everyone with the spirit of creativity, purpose and cooperation.

A talk by the esteemed director of CHIHAYAFURU Part 3, Nori Koizumi , highlighted the joy of being able to impart ideas inherent or different with one culture being appreciated by another helps in a greater understanding between cultures, and he admits being surprised that there are many among the audience who are familiar with Chihayafuru and his work.

With a toast with everyone, EIGASAI 2018 was declared open and attendees were treated with the Philippine premiere of Chihayafuru Part 3, the live-action film adaptation of Yuki Suetsugu’s manga series Chihayafuru, at Greenbelt 1 Cinema 2 .
