Manila International Book Fair 2023 Proves to be the Ultimate Book Experience

Continuing to be the most fascinating and most beloved bastion for fans of the written and printed word from all over the world, the Manila International Book Fair, MIBF, returned to SMX Convention Center in Pasay City last September 14-17, 2023. Organized by Primetrade Asia, Inc., MIBF fulfilled its promise to be one of the best and biggest ever with lots of activities and attractions in store for everyone and proved to be the ultimate book experience.


Books for Everyone: MIBF Makes Its Successful Live Return in 2022

Fans of the written and printed word all over the Philippines got to rejoice as they thronged to the long-awaited live return of the Philippine’s largest and longest running book fair, Manila International Book Fair 2022. Long-time fans, readers and exhibitors again gathered to connect and celebrate their love of books. Taking place four whole glorious days spanning September 15-18, 2022 at the SMX Convention Center Manila, Manila International Book Fair 2022, organized by Primetrade Asia, Inc., fulfilled its promise to be one of the best and biggest ever with lots of activities and attractions in store for everyone.


Best of Anime / BOA 2014: Day 2

As one of the biggest events this year for Japanese pop culture enthusiasts, particularly anime fans, The Best of Anime is an anime convention held every year in Manila, Philippines and is now on its 5th year, September 20-21, 2014 at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia , Pasay City, and now were here bringing you the highlights of our coverage from BOA Day 2.
The Best of Anime has consistently reached thousands of visitors for the past four momentous years. Last year, the two-day event had more than 20,000 visitors who trooped to the venue to experience and witness once more what “The Best of Anime” showcased and offered. The anime convention has featured an impressive roster of talents, cosplayers, activities, and much more. Moreover, the convention has extended its horizons and upgraded the local Anime Conventions by having JPop Idol Group, Starmarie, exciting the crowd with their scintillating song and dance performances. And on Day 2 they opened the festivities with another powerful and endearing performance.
This year’s list of impressive international guests included prominent cosplayer Onnies from Thailand, renowned cosplayer Karael and Singaporean blogger/cosplayer Kaika. They thrilled the audiences no end with their performances and their appeal to their Filipino fans the previous day. On Day 2 they had meet and greet sessions with their fans at the different meeting rooms of SMX, as well as press conferences with the media.
Highlighting BOA day 2 was the Hero Face Off where cosplayers battled it out for the biggest prizes of the year, which opened with OPM band Pedicab’s thunderous performance.
Serving as judges were PBB Grand Winner Myrtle, Hero TV Channel Head Jojo Estacio and celebrity and model Tessa Prieto-Valdez. There was the Kids Squad Category for chibi cosplayers, League of Heroes for groups, and Hero Face Off Category for the adults. Cosplayers gave their best performances on stage in their magnificent costumes to the appreciation of the crowd. In the end, chose by the judges were, for the Kids Squad Category, Bolen Lareza as Champion and Ashley Misaki as Runner Up. For the League of Heroes Category, Team Crossback won as Champion while SGR 48 won Runner Up. And for the Hero Face Off Category, the two champions named were Andrea Hernandez as Fatalis from Monster Hunters and RB Cheng as King Gojulas of Zoids.
OPM band Sandwich also gave an exciting performance to cap of the Hero Faceoff event.
Then came time to thank all the people who made the event a success, from the guests to the sponsors.
Japanese-American performer/musician Joe Inoue rocked the house with a rocking and amusing performance which had the SMX literally shaking.
Capping off the day’s performances was Japanese visual Kei band Heidi who gave a rocking performance that literally made the floor of the SMX Function Halls 3 and 4 shake and quake as fans jumping couldn’t get enough of the band, screaming at the top of their lungs and singing with the band.

Best of Anime / BOA 2014: Day 1

As one of the biggest events this year for Japanese pop culture enthusiasts, The Best of Anime is an anime convention held every year in Manila, Philippines and is now on its 5th year, September 20-21, 2014 at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia , Pasay City.

Moreover, the convention has extended its horizons and upgraded the local Anime Conventions by having JPop Idol Group, Starmarie, exciting the crowd with their scintillating song and dance performance.
This year’s list of impressive international guests included prominent cosplayer Onnies from Thailand, renowned cosplayer Karael and Singaporean blogger/cosplayer Kaika. They thrilled the audiences no end with their performances and their appeal to their Filipino fans.
Celebrity cosplayer Liui Aquino had a performance with a group of talented cosplayers for a Disney/Dreamworks-themed skit that entertained the crowd. Afterwards, Liui had a brief meetand greet with some lucky fans, getting to have their photos taken with him and some selfies as well.
Included in the other various highlights from the previous year were the Karaoke and Quickdraw Competitions, and the Inter-school Cosplay Competition and the BOA ALl=Stars Cosplay contest where our cosplay model Ashley Misaki won as Best Chibi and Bianca Mako for Best Cloth and our friend Izaiah Luke Buelleos for Best Mecha.
Japanese visual Kei band Heidi gave a rocking performance that literally made the floor of the SMX Function Halls 3 and 4 shake and quake as fans jumping couldn’t get enough of the band, screaming at the top of their lungs and singing with the band.
Making an appearance at the end was Japanese-American multi-talented musician Joe Inoue, who entertained the crowd and told the crowd to watch out for his performance at Day 2 of BOA.

Last year, the two-day event had more than 20,000 visitors who trooped to the venue to experience and witness once more what “The Best of Anime” showcased and offered. The anime convention had featured an impressive roster of talents, cosplayers, activities, and much more. Moreover, the convention has extended its horizons and upgraded the local Anime Conventions by having the Japanese-American Multi-talented musician Joe Inoue, and JPop Idol Group, Starmarie to include the growing list of international guests, which had begun with Japanese visual-kei rock band, Uchusentai Noiz. Pointing out the other various highlights from the previous year were the Cosplay and Quickdraw Competitions, Battle of the Bands, Fashion Show, and Various workshops.
An impressive roster of local and international guests will be on hand to bring excitement to the event, and are sure to please fans everywhere with their appearances and performances. With this and more, Best of Anime 2014 is THE anime event of the year that one cannot afford to miss.
Also at BOA will be the Hero Face Off cosplay competition. A collaboration of epic proportions is coming this September as Hero TV and Primetrade Asia, Inc. present the rise of the cosplay empire with the Hero Face Off 2014 during the launch of The Best of Anime (BOA) this September. The Hero Face Off, happening on September 21, is now on its 5th year of showcasing the best of cosplay in the Philippines. The event will be celebrating the distinct Pinoy creativity as embodied in the year’s ultimate cosplay battle. This will all be happening in the midst of BOA 2014, which continues to bring the culture, art, and fun entertainment of Japan to the Philippines. The Hero Face Off competition this year will be divided into three categories: The Kids Squad category, League of Heroes category, and the Face Off category. Also particularly new for this year’s competition is that the Hero Face Off is now open to Filipino characters. Among the judges for the Hero Face Off this year will be Pinoy Big Brother grand winner and Hero TV Anime Jock Myrtle Sarrosa, Hero TV Channel Head Jojo Neri-Estacio, Primetrade Asia President Irene Lloren, and Hero Face Off 2013 winner Erica Garbin. Meanwhile, My Hero Nation’s Kakki Teodoro and Mikoy Morales are set to host the said event. Also in store for everyone are performances by Luiu Aquino. While at BOA 2014, you also shouldn’t miss dropping by the other great events happening on the same days. The 35th Manila International Book Fair will be held at the SMX Convention Center from Sept 17-21, and is the biggest book fair in the Philippines. With an impressive line of exhibitors and a great roster of guest authors, The 35th Manila International Book Fair is a reader’s heaven one cannot afford to miss.
Also there will be the DigiTech Manila Conference & Expo on September 19-20, 2014 at Function Rooms 1-2, SMX Convention Center.
