We met Yanna at an event a while back and were impressed by her classy cosplay of Enoshima Junko from the wildly popular game and anime series, Dangan Ronpa, and after we took some quick photos of her she said that she visits and enjoys the site. We of course were touched and wanted then and there to feature her on the blog, so here we go. Photos by Bryan, Blessma as Executive producer and Xtian as Director/Writer.
For this feature, Yanna cosplays Super High School Level Diva Enoshima Junko from Dangan Ronpa. Despite the chic and sophisticated character she portrays, Yanna describes herself as quite introverted. She says she’s friendly though, and enjoys going to cosplay events and conventions with friends.
Yanna tells us that she attended her first event in 2012 at the Christmas Toy Fair, and there she saw fantastic cosplays that made her want to try cosplaying as well. It was around that time when she completed her first cosplay, Jane Crocker from Homestruck. Since then she continues to cosplay because it gives her the chance to express her love for a character.
Harboring a great love for anything that requires creativity, Yanna says she enjoys the process of putting together costumes and making props. She says cosplaying has made her learn skills like sewing. She admits there are many challenges along the way, but Yanna says looking for solutions to overcome them adds to the fun and satisfaction of completing a cosplay of a character she really wants to portray.
Besides learning a variety of handy skills needed in crafting her costumes, Yanna tells us cosplay has many positive aspects in her young life. She says it has improved her self-confidence, and that it has helped her make many friends, especially ones who share the same passion and interests as her. She says cosplaying has allowed her to spend time and have fun with friends at events. She particularly enjoys it when children are interested in the characters she portrays and ask to have pictures with her.
When asked what characters she likes portraying, Yanna says she usually cosplays as her favorite characters, most of whom are the stereotypical meganekos, or characters with glasses, because she can usually relate to them and because she really likes their character design. She says her ultimate dream cosplays are Monoko from Yume Nikki, Porrim Maryam from Homestuck, and Chell from Portal. She says her youngest sister might cosplay as Anko, Tamako’s younger sister from Tamako Market, so she wants to cosplay as Tamako so their cosplays can complement each other.
Yanna dreams of becoming an author someday, as writing has always been her passion. Outside of cosplaying, Yanna extends her creativity to other pursuits, like trying to master the art of decorating cupcakes and enjoying baking and making desserts.
Yanna is happy that her parents are supportive of her cosplaying and that she is really grateful to them. She’d also like to thank her grandmother for giving her tips when it comes to sewing and props-making. She then wants to thank her friends who have made her hobby a whole lot more enjoyable for her.
